Silver Dollar City on Video

Can anyone, particularly current "citizens" of SDC, tell me why nobody in marketing has gotten permission to release on DVD and sell in SDC shops things like the "Burl Ives America" program, or maybe the SDC episodes of "The Beverly Hillbillies?" Seems like SDC released a video that was about 20 minutes long in 1990, too. It would be nice to see that on DVD. I think some of the stage shows in the 90s at SDC were sold on video, any chance they would come out on a DVD? I would think that thousands of these SDC related DVD's could be sold in the hospitality house, ozark marketplace, and so on. Anybody know anything about this? It would be great to see this stuff sold at SDC in the 50th anniversary year.

I have often wondered that about the Beverly Hillbillies as well. A HUGE favorite of mine to this day, and I have wondered why not sell then there? I had to painstakingly wait until they were on TV to record them. I know some others on here have downloaded them from iTunes and other sites as well. I have NEVER seen them in any store for sale on any of the DVD sets etc.

For years SDC has asked and CBS said no, but finally CBS has agreed to release the season with the Beverly Hillbillies at SDC. It’s not always people at SDC not doing their job or not trying to get something done, often times its companies and people who own the rights to certain things that causes SDC not to be able to release things.

^I figured it was due to a rights issue.

Do they would be available this year at SDC?  I have recorded them also from the tv but I have some commercials included because I wasn't able to record and watch at the same time.

I definitely would like a copy of both Beverly Hillbillies and Burl Ives (if available)

Seems like if even only a few thousand copies were sold, it's better than none. I think I remember a kenny rogers special shot at SDC in the 90's that featured garth brooks...anything with garth in it would sell. Didn't SDC release a video in the 90's of their christmas lights. I'd love to have that on DVD, too. Who wouldn't?

If my memory is good - I thought there was a video (Christmas tv special) with Pat Boone at SDC.  I know that Judy (the storyteller was in it too)

I would like to see that again- I believe it was in the 80's since my son was young.

Here's a post from a couple of years ago.  It has a link to a YouTube video from the Kenny Rogers special that I found.  Enjoy! :)

I loved the first years of Christmas at the park.  We were so excited they were finally open for the holiday.  A snow machine allowed people to even sled down a short hill.  There were living Raggedy Ann and Andy characters and wood soldiers who even did a show on Main.  It was weird when Boys 2 Men did a TV special out there one year (Believe it or not!).

You must be talking about Kenny Rogers' Christmas Special from 1992, "Keep Christmas With You".  It featured footage of Kenny Rogers, Trisha Yearwood, Boyz II Men, and Garth Brooks.  Kenny Rogers hand-picked five kids from across the country and gave them a Christmas they'd never forget.  It featured previously recorded footage of the country stars interacting with the kids, while being broadcast live from the Grand Palace!  It also showed previously recorded footage of Kenny and the kids on a special outing at Silver Dollar City!  The Lord has blessed us with YouTube, and I have found a video of Boyz II Men and Kenny Rogers performing "The First Noel" at SDC in front of a Christmas tree on the square!  Here's a link, and enjoy!

When I started at the City, singing in the Saloon Show in the late '70's, we were asked to choose songs to sing that were in the public domain and nothing later than from the 20's or 30's.  Today of course, entertainers are able to perform songs that are current, and the City pays ASCAP and BMI fees for the rights to use them in performances.  But to include them in DVDs for sale to the public would mean acquiring rights of a different nature and higher cost.  Shows like Dickens' Christmas Carol, Headin' West, Echo Hollow and the others would make for nice videos to sell to the public, but, frankly, I just don't think they want to deal with the hassle and cost of getting those rights to the songs.
"Why do they call them Wild Women?"

The ones I really want are the Beverly Hillbillies, the Burl Ives program, and I would LOVE a DVD of "Listen to the River."

I own a VHS to digital converter. Anything I have on VHS I can make a DVD out of. Just saying....

Also, there is currently a VHS tape called Silver Dollar City: American Spirit on ebay. Anyone know what this is? Is it a tape of one of the old productions?

No, it's a trip around the city, visiting the craftsmen, the saloon show, and geyser gulch. Telling what the city is about! I have this one!
