I'll be there Friday-Sunday myself.

We're heading up after work tonight, and will be there early for breakfast in the morning. First trip of the year, to the best festival of the year. Looking forward to it!

The train depot is that color, but I don't think the sign is there.

Oh... the giant swing!??

One of those is on the path that runs between The Flooded Mine and Bummer and Lazarus.

Decent. My in-laws are retired, and apparently they have gotten quite lazy. We got there early for a fantastic breakfast, then watched the opening ceremonies. From there, my 2-year-old kind-of took over, so we spent the majority of the day shuttling her back and forth between the frogs and the balloons. We had the BBQ lunch (fantastic as always), and caught the saloon show, which is much improved from last season. We also rode the train.

All told, we didn't get to do near as much stuff as I wanted us to get to, but they seemed really pleased with their day nevertheless.

Branson Talk / Re: Branson Declining?

I disagree. With the Landings opening up, and the new Target and all the building out that way, I think the city is just going through a bit of an identity crisis. SDC is doing some major construction, and it sounds like more is to come. This is a time of growth, and once the recession is over, the town will be back bigger and better than ever.

Again, I agree with rosenc1c. I am just so tired of the same skit and the same jokes that I avoid the train whenever I can. My wife, however, can't get enough of it.

These are all good things to hear. I guess what I am saying is, they are in a prime position to really affect change on this issue. I am thrilled that they are doing so much with recycling and forestry. I would like to see them take that one step further, though, by making their efforts well known, and encouraging patrons to make the same efforts when they return home. What about a new "green" festival? It just seems too obvious to me to have not been done yet. It is a perfect fit with the "simpler times" themes that the park stands for.

I haven't stayed for the evening show in a loooooooong time. Usually everybody is just so worn out by then.

If ever there were a place that should be planted firmly in the Green initiative, it is SDC. The park should be plunging headfirst into renewable energy and recycling, and making a big deal out of letting the patrons know about it. Solar panels alone would save the park untold thousands of dollars each year. They are unobtrusive, and could be placed on top of virtually every building in the park without drawing attention to themselves. This is a park that prides itself on being a return to nature. Shouldn't they be doing more to ensure that nature will still be there in the future?

I agree with rosenc1c. Maybe it is just because I am getting older, but what I like most about SDC is that it is actually relaxing to go to the park, unlike most amusement parks. I like rides as much as the next guy, but I can't deny that the park seems to be going solely for the thrill seekers lately, and that makes me very nervous.
