Random Talk / History of Silver coins
May 02, 2013, 12:34:20 AM
Today morning i was surfing of where to buy silver coins, somehow i came to read this interesting fact of silver history. I wanted to share this with you friends. here it is....

'Silver mining has been carried out for the past 5,000 years.  It is estimated that earliest mining took place in Anatolia (today's Turkey) back in 3,000 B.C. This silver was used by them to trade with the Greeks.  These informations are even mentioned in the Book of Genesis. It has been found that the Chaldean civilization in 2,500 B.C. was the first to have processed silver ores. By 1,200 B.C., the main production of silver shifted to Greece. The Greek used that silver to create Athenian coins. Some of the materials used by them such as washing tables still exist today.'
