SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: SDC Time Traveler
August 22, 2018, 03:44:52 PM
I have to bump this thread b/c it was so ahead of its "TIME" :)

I found it by searching something specific to Time Traveler after a visit this last weekend.  While I'm here I want to commend SDC and MACK on the smoothest coaster I think I've ever ridden.  I hate that a US company didn't get the business, but I gotta give credit where credit is due.

Anyone else bothered by this photo attached.  I know this dancing on the square is only during moonlight madness, but it just rubs my theming nerves the wrong way.

What FB group are you talking about here?  Is it an open group, I'd love to see this post?

So something happened in the SDC Facebook group I'm involved with. They just made a post basically stating that any future attraction/speculation/ideas are to no longer be discussed no matter how vague it may be and violations could result in a banning. This is coming from someone claiming to be a park employee. So either they are about to make an announcement or there was a leak somewhere along the lines. Some members have apparently already received some cease and desist notices. Very odd to see such a crackdown on user content being posted regarding this subject.

I agree, the theming is great at SDC, but I feel it can't be compared to most theme parks easily b/c the theme is so consistently nostalgic at SDC.  It's not like other theme parks where you jump into the queue line for ride A and your immersed into theme A, then you go jump in the queue line for ride B and now your in theme B.  All of SDC (with slight exception of GE) is themed with a underlying nostalgic foundation, therefore that foundation cannot be broken around the park without being easily noticed by people who care about detail.  I also believe the people who don't care as much about detail are still affected by these breaks in theme, just subconsciously.  The more often they see it the more acceptable to them it becomes and the less likely they are to say anything or voice their concerns as time goes on.  I forget where I read it (was in this forum) but someone, perhaps Junior said, "these types of concerns have to trickle down from management or they will continue to be lost"  I've seen him say employees would "loose their job" or "get in trouble" for simple theme breaks back in "Miss Mary's Time", but I'm not sure that aggressive of action is even needed.  If bottom level employees were constantly reminded in memos, meetings, etc.  that they should be paying attention to these things that make SDC so unique and great I would like to believe they would put forth an effort to preserve that, ya know a sense of pride for being part of what makes SDC so awesome.  We know this type of emphasis used to come from management from the stories we hear out of Junior.  I hope this thread reaches some employees in management at SDC that can and have the power to make a direct impact.  I don't believe there has to be any quantitative compromise in profit or resources, just instill a sense of obligation to all employees that theming is VERY important and is a BIG part of what makes SDC so unique.

Wait,,,,,,,,
Come to think of it I can put a quantitative price on this issue.  Create a position at the park just like safety officer in current corporate structure,,,,,, we'll call it "Theme Officer".  Salary: free admission, food and drinks to SDC every day.  Job description: Issue violations in theming park wide.  Give them a western sheriff themed costume, badge, gun, and all.   I'll leave the rest of the job description up to SDCFan's imagination, but I'll go ahead and nominate Junior for this position :))

Quoting Rube from "Outlaw Pizza" : "I have had the St Louis thin cracker crust, New York thin, Chicago deep dish....I like new things, but do not want to be disappointed especially with Reed Springs Pizza voted #1 in MO by USA Today (I Think) so close by."

I found this yesterday right before starting this new thread and decided just to start new b/c the official name of the place to eat is "Crossroads Pizza"

Bet your silver dollar I'll be trying this place the very next time I head up that way, I do consider myself a novice pizza connoisseur :)) : http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/98/1558209/restaurant/Branson/Reeds-Spring-Pizza-Co-Reeds-Spring

I will say that every time I've had crossroads pizza I've been satisfied with the taste.  I believe the quality far exceeds what would be generally accepted as amusement park pizza.  They also have no problem giving complementary red sauce to dip your crust which is a must for me.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Crossroads Pizza
July 23, 2014, 07:19:32 PM
Was at Crossroads Pizza this weekend and I was disgusted by several things.  With such little management effort that place could be improved so vastly it's sad.  I actually witnessed an employee (appeared to be management) tell the cashier she couldn't input custom requests on the POS system.  She called her away from the register and said, "you see this (while pointing at the receipt), you cannot put this in there" in a rather condescending tone.  I believe it was in reference to someone before me that ordered "half the amount of cheese, extra red sauce", because I heard her complain about it while I was picking up my order.  Then, after that I requested that a pizza be made half cheese half supreme, b/c my 6yr old son just likes plain cheese, to which I was told, "we can't do that, and we cannot customize the pizzas, they can only be made to what you see on the menu".  I was absolutely stunned, talk about customer NO-service.  I understand the simplicity of the menu b/c it's an amusement park, and if the lines would've been out the door this response could be partially warranted, but with 4 people in line, and a kitchen that has ample ability there is no excuse for not being able to partially customize a pizza,, every pizza place the the world does this,, come on SDC, ridiculous!

This image speaks for itself.  I mean what maintenance person in their right mind would do such a thing.  The littlest effort here could've made the biggest difference.  A small floor standing halogen light positioned behind an in-theme crate.  Or even just making the effort to cover the feet and/or paint the stand camoflauge.  Pitiful.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: GE
July 24, 2012, 04:25:05 PM
I voted "YES".  But, I have two kids 4yrs and 4months.  Even though GE doesn't fit the theme, I agree with its need for little kids and I'm happy that SDC management recognized that it didn't fit the theme and decided to segregate it from the main park.  Some time in the past,, maybe 10 or more yrs ago I remember when a few of the "carnival like" rides were where river blast is now.  Right smack dab in the middle of all the SDC unique goodness so many of us come back for; it was absolutely disgusting to my whole family who are lifetime patrons of the park.  I can still remember when I would walk up the hill toward the saloon show and just before passing under the railroad track would look to the left and just be ashamed of that area, how someone could completely disregard the general SDC theme and decide to put that ride there was beyond me.   I was disgusted to the point I couldn't keep my mouth shut and I'm so happy that someone with power realized that it didn't fit.  Now we can at least go to GE and satisfy the small children without ruining the theme SDC is all about.
