Awesome video.  I'll have to send that link out to my lists.  Thanks for sharing it.

PS:  I also loved that line about not being able to hear that song at Disney.  Classic.

I remember (and miss) that "jolt to the right" section.

Sorry to contribute.  Guess I'll go back to lurking...

No great loss.  I still enjoy riding forwards after all these years, but I hated riding backwards.  My kids might miss it, though.

Branson Talk / Re: bransons best motel

There are several nice places, but we really like Lynina Inn on SotH Expressway.  It's clean, they serve a great breakfast, the staff is nice, and it's one of the least expensive places to stay.  I highly recommend it.

We got a special table one year without knowing they existed.  It was hilarious.  We really had no clue what was going on for the longest time.  We did eventually figure it out, though...    ;D

Random Talk / Re: The Newbies Thread
September 28, 2010, 01:14:42 AM
I'm not exactly a Newbie, but I'll post here anyway to "make it official".  I've been going to SDC basically since I was born.  My parents used to fish Table Rock Lake every year.  One year they heard about this new place Silver Dollar City.  So, my mom and her friend thought they'd try it out (with the kids, of course, while the dads fished), and the rest is history.  We've averaged at least one visit a year since then.  I'm 44, so I haven't been around since the park began, but almost so.  It's easily my favorite theme park, and I like something about most of the ones I've visited, so that's saying something.  No other park is as relaxing and as good at letting you get away from the hubbub of life.  Every time we go, the first thing my mom (now coming with her grandkids) says as we walk in is, "We're back home!"

Not going to read all 17 pages...  Just dropping a note to add my wife to the list of SDC fans who are teachers.

Branson Talk / Re: Dinner in Branson

Couple of notes on those warnings:  Peppercorn's had a good breakfast at one time.  Haven't been there for a while, though.  As I said earlier, Fall Creek Steakhouse used to be good (catfish was good too), but they rebuilt after a fire, and it hasn't been as good the last two times we went.

Branson Talk / Re: Gambling in Branson?
September 08, 2010, 03:29:39 PM
The problem with gambling (besides those already voiced) is that it always means rows and rows of slot machines.  I'd look on the idea more favorably if they just put a few poker and blackjack tables at each venue.  That would be more 1880-ish.  I can't see it at SDC in any way, though.  Not unless the gaming was for free food vouchers or something similar.  That way, it would mostly be for fun and to enhance the theme, not to get rich quick.

Depends on what they want.  If they are big on atmosphere, go to Shorty Small's anyway.  Or maybe to the White River Fish Company on Lake Taneycomo, though it's expensive.  Altenhof Inn on Indian Point has a great view of Table Rock Lake when you eat on their patio.  If they want good food, you can't beat Danna's for barbecue.  Billygail's on 265 by The Wilderness is well-known (and usually packed) for breakfast, though my favorite is a bit further away - Aunt Martha's in Springfield.  Grand Country Buffet is okay if you want a buffet, I suppose.

We used to like Fall Creek Steak House, but since the post-fire rebuild it's not as good.  McFarland's seems to have jumped the shark as well.  Uncle Joe's BBQ was pretty good, but it's gone now.  I don't know about y'all, but we try not to do chain restaurants when on vacation.  They're around any time we're not on vacation, and we like to sample the local culture a bit when we eat.  That makes the restaurant pickings pretty slim though...

As I said, I'm not for BANNING him from Branson (unless his concerts caused riots or something).  I'm just saying that it's a shame to have the family-friendly nature of the area impugned by his offensive act.  Hopefully it won't start a trend of risque entertainment in the area.  The only good thing is that it was a one-time event, not a show that is around all year.  For example, we wouldn't want a strip club in Branson, would we?

I ride it at least once without using the gun each visit to the park.  It's still hard to "absorb" the atmosphere with all those ricochet sounds.  I also agree that the existing effects are not as good as they used to be.

Sure, it's the theater's decision, but if they go too far I'm sure the city could get involved in some way.  I'm just surprised that the theater would even want to risk having such an act there.  It's nothing but bad PR with Branson's usual clientele.
