General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: SDC Music .....BlueGrass
December 12, 2010, 02:06:36 PM
My love of Bluegrass as an adult is directly linked to my gospel upbringing and regular visits to SDC from age 2. I've just started Upright bass lessons with Jason Chapman.

OK. I love The City, always have, always will. But if they don't do something about this MAJOR problem...I may never come back during Old Fashioned Christmas ever again..
TURN OFF the HYPER LOUD music on the square when the HOMESTEAD PICKERS ARE TRYING TO PLAY AT THE HOMESTEAD!!!!!! For crap sake folks, come on. It ain't hard to figure out you can't hear bluegrass instruments played acoustically when there is 10 million watts of canned christmas music blaring just a few feet away. I was in the park all of 30 minutes last year during the Christmas display before I just got fed up and left because I had come to hear the Homestead Pickers, who were overpowered, even with the doors and windows closed inside the homestead. Can someone pass this along so I don't have ANOTHER negative Christmas experience at SDC this year?

Is there any practical way to confirm this quickly? Any ideas?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Question: Size restrictions on coasters
May 11, 2010, 10:50:51 PM
Sea World and Universal Orlando coasters have like 2 seats on each car that have slightly modified restraints to accomodate folks who are 'large chested' such as myself. Do the SDC coaster rides have similar modified restraints for 'bigger folks'?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: HFEC CEO To Appear On "Undercover Boss"
March 28, 2010, 09:42:28 PM
I was so proud of the way the employees conducted themselves, the way the boss conducted himself, and the wonderful way that HFE was represented. I'm happy to pay $77 for a season pass so that HFE can expand their employee assistance programs. I am glad that my 40+ years of admiration for SDC has not been in vain. This is a caring company run by good people. Can I get an AMEN on that?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Ever seen a Snake at SDC?
March 27, 2010, 02:36:51 PMQuote from: rubedugans on March 25, 2010, 09:09:50 AM
I saw the same possum as Rube and have seen more than my fair share of chipmunks and squirrels, LARGE spiders (orb-weavers) in the flowers around the Grand Exposition area, and, of course, bats in the cave but never a snake.
Yea but did you ever see a bat in the belfry? (bad joke...hehe)

General Silver Dollar City Talk / How much is SDC's monthly utility bill?

Always sorta wondered how much it costs them to run everything...or do they generate their own power?

LOL no no, but the other day as I strolled behind the Homestead in the wood chips, I just got to thinking...

I've always wondered, what with the setting being 'in the woods' and all...if anyone ever sees a snake in the park? I never have, but I wonder about over below and behind the Homestead...
Also, if they don't have snake problems, HOW do they accomplish that? I live on an acre in Springfield. My grass is never more than 3 inches tall and I've got garden snakes all the time!

12,000 huh...wow that's alot for an opening day. Of course Spring Break kids accounted for a HUGE percentage of todays crowd. Oh and BTW...I saw Terry Sanders and at least 3 other characters on the square for a large part of the day today. Very glad to see.

BUSY BUSY BUSY opening day! I'd love to hear what the count was. Took me 2 hours and 10 minutes from the time I turned onto Indian Point Road from 76 until my pass was scanned and I actually entered the City. I turned onto Indian Point Road at 9:30am. 45 minutes later was able to park my car. 10 minutes later was at the ticket counter. An hour and 10 minutes later my pass was scanned and I entered the park. I bought my pass at the park today because I didn't want to buy online and pay their 'online convenience fee'. BIG MISTAKE! (Next time, I'll give them their 'fee' and buy online, even though I don't agree with it.) Until 11am, they only had 6 ticket windows open, but then they opened at least 4 more. Busy busy busy! But so worth it. Had a blast. Judy told excellent stories as always, and the Homestead Pickers were awesome as well. I spent 6 hours actually in the park. Didn't take pics, but the Apple Butter Cabin is a great improvement on the old one. So much more room and really made up nicely. Overall, a great first day.
