Hey everyone! As an SDC fan let me say I am thrilled to have found this forum site! Secondly, we always go to SDC several times a year including the fabulous Christmas festival. Timing is tough this year and we need to go either opening weekend for an extended mini vacation (Nov 2 or Nov 3 in the park) or go the following weekend and it will be a short weekend of getting there on Friday night, park Saturday, drive home Sunday.
My question - can anyone tell me how busy the park is opening day, opening weekend of the Christmas festival?
Thanks in advance!
I think you will find less folks there the 1st weekend, then the 2nd..... reason being is the 2nd weekend is wrapped around Veterans week...
and sunday the first weekend should be low attendance I would guess...
We will see,
We have been there the first weekend before and found it very busy. I bet though, Sunday wouldn't be too bad. A lot of it all depends on the weather.
It's usually warmer in early November. Hard to get in the Christmas spirit when its 70+ outside.
I'm so disappointed that it doesn't start on Friday -- I have Friday off from school (comp day for being held hostage for P/T Conferences) and was hoping I could make a run down there... nope. :(
Saturday is out of the question as I will be tailgating in CoMO all day for our game against the muffin tops from Tennessee
Swoosh! that is bad timing..
Comparatively speaking, most of November is okay, but I would avoid Thanksgiving weekend. Made that mistake last year! :o :P
Thank you all so much for the feedback! With all of this feedback I have booked us for this weekend for opening day. I really appreciate it folks - I wish you all can get out this year for OTC and have a great time!
DC
Only Black Friday and Saturday are bad during Turkey Week.
Went to the park today, thanks to all of the responses I am happy to say it was the deadest I've ever been to the park on any occasion.
However I must agree with the weather, this is the first time when I went during OTC and it didn't put me into the holiday spirit.
Bummer about the lack of holiday spirit. That winter chill certainly add to the allure of the holiday season. It would be difficult for me to get in the spirit the same week as Halloween. So...tell us how the park looked! Anything new?
If you haven't heard - this is the last year for the current parade. Cannot spill the beans on what the theme of the new parade will be yet, but will give the hint of "think of what the BIG news was last year was (other than Outlaw Run)"
I'll miss the parade, but I've seen it over and over! It's time for a new parade!

Oooh, Oooh, I know, I know
;)
Not much to report on the park I'm afraid. It was as decked out for Christmas as the recent previous years. Cinnamon bread came right out of the oven and absolutely no line to get it (double bonus!). Umm, got some great buys on last years christmas decorations and ornaments so by other half was excited about that. The foliage was jaw dropping.
Can you remind us what the other big news was outside if the Outlaw Run? I am drawing a blank...
Me too! But driving me crazy!
the big news was the new character that SDC get to use as the theme. That character was?????
Gee Swoosh, can I tell or is it suddenly hush, hush? (That is if I remember correctly who it is) I think I know, has something to do with the color 9

The other big news, as you will remember, is that SDC licensed rights for Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. So, how was Rudolph's presence at the Christmas festival in the shops, and on the streets?
I want to enjoy my November and Thanksgiving first before getting into the Christmas spirit. It's not likely that we'll get there before December, so that works out. We are thinking of going during the weekend AFTER Christmas Day, however.

Not over the top this year -- give it a year
Thanks, Swoosh! Oh by the way people...if you go to the Christmas festival, PLEASE post some photos. I love those pictures of all the lights. Of course, some holiday shots of some of our favorite citizens are welcome, too. :)

Cant wait to be there in December. We love SDC anytime. My sister has never been to SDC at Christmas and we will be bringing her this Christmas. Hope all yall have fun this Christmas Season.
My teenage boys are even talking like they might want to put down the XBOX controller and accompany me to SDC this winter. What gives with that?
