Has anyone been by or taken pictures of the Red Roof Outlit mall since it closed? I went to visit it and the few stores that were left (got a steal on a pair of Reeboks) but haven't been back since. I didn't know if the city would keep up mowing and the tree trimming until it figured out what to do with the area.
There is talk of the city putting in a sports complex but other than that only like two stores left due to they made a deal with the city as I understand. So not much more at this time but hopefully more info soon!
I also have read a couple of times about an "organic" garden going into the complex ??? ???
i think for this year anyway the city will keep the property clean and presentable to entice new renters and investors... ;)
never liked it cause it seemed inside out with the back of the stores showing on the perimeter.
It was always really hot there. Not a good layout which in turn trapped the heat in.
So are we down to just Tanger and the Landing now? Meadows is closed too for the most part, right?
Swoosh is correct. Tanger and the Landing are the places. Red Roof and Branson Meadows are dead. There are a few stores left, but not many. It is too bad. Red Roof used to be the only place in town...and I always enjoyed the layout of Branson Meadows, liked the Foozles book store, and my wife liked the Vanity Fair discount clothing place. At Red Roof, my favorite place was the Auntie Annie's fresh pretzel place. Tanger is good, the landing looks nicer, and I like walking through Pro Bass Shop. I think it's cool they have a Ride the Ducks down on Taneycomo. However, I am "Mr. Old School." I wish the powers that be would have been able to preserve some of the old landmarks...Mang Field, Sammy Lane Pirate Cruise, and so on. When I was a high school kid attending Branson schools, us kids would cruise downtown, making a loop from McDonalds down the main street to the lakefront, and then circle on back around and back up to McDonalds. We thought we were soooooo cool! 8)
Dude I was so cool I cruised main with my mom so I wouldnt have to drive and spend more time looking at the boys!

Yo! I was so cool I made sure that I always sat on the passenger side of the car because you can't be seen if you're stuck in the back seat! ;D
Trams! Dude! Seriously? Your mom???
I know. My mom rocked. We would all gather at my house and my mom would fire up the stang. We would put the top down and misbehave. It was so much fun. No responsiblity of driving. My mom was a hoot. She would condone mooning. Ha! So yes. I took mom cruising main and LOVED IT!

If I did that with my mom, she would have to drag my four siblings along, and she would have had pink curlers in her hair. ;D My grandmother, on the other hand, would have probably said, "Cathy, turn on the car radio and wait while I touch up my makeup and put on a new blouse!" :D :D
I haven't ventured into Branson this year, but I thought that the stores that didn't have a presence at Tanger that was at Red Roof was mostly going to Meadows cause it was managed by the same outfit, Simon. There's really nothing all that cheap about outlets. Lots of them have product lines just for those stores.
we catch a movie at the Meadows every now an then..
I can tell you that it appears to have more vacancies than tenants...
That's sad to hear. I've always liked Red Roof not because of the stores so much, but it has a bit more character with the grassy areas, the staircases, etc. Tanger is nothing but a parking lot with 3 walls of doors. Meadows is not much better. The old Red Roof for all it's faults at least had a bit of charm, when you walked around it didn't seem like you were just going from one end of the concrete to the other. My .02
Ok so I stopped by the Red Roof this weekend and wandered the whole place. The entrance over by White Water is chained off with signs that say "Trespassing City Property" so I parked at White Water and hoofed it in. The whole place was deserted until I saw some "mall walkers" and then discovered that the Crocks store was still somehow open. I walked in and sure enough the music was playing and there was about 10 people in the store. Keep in mind I'd been walking around for probably 30 min without seeing anyone before I came across this. It was like suddenly stepping through a time bubble.
I talked to the sales associate and she said that they were the only remaining store left and that the other entrance was still open. They had a big tarp on the rear part of their store saying "Yes, We're Open." They struck a deal with the city to be there until Christmas and then they will be moving to Tanger.
So there you have it. Even though the bathrooms are locked, the trespassing signs are up, the soda machine's are turned off, and google maps says "Permanently Closed" we were able to still visit the last remaining shop it will ever have. I plan on checking up on the place about twice a year just to see how well they keep up with the grounds and see the dilapidation. Other than that I see it being there unused for a very long time.
A sad, slow death end to a once thriving, vital place in Branson. I don't really expect anything to go in there soon. Thanks for the update.
It was interesting as a kid coming from the St Louis suburbs in the mid 80's, a time when our shopping mall-mid rivers mall had just opened, food courts, arcades, and escalators were the place to hang out, Chesterfield mall and Riverroads, as well as Northwest Plaza, and the Galleria were all doing well, and everytime we would go to Branson, there would be no "shopping" scene. The outdoor setting/ outlet mall offered a change from what we were used to. It had stairs, shops, overlooks, two floors, and a variety of stores. I remember thinking our toy sore at home had way more legos, but I still found things that my parents spent money on that I cannot remember what they were (I remember a small Lego kit that made a car).
I have plenty of memories of this place, it will be missed for what it was, not what it is, and since I have a penchant for abandoned places...odds are I'll be taking some photos here in the new year!

Yeah I took a ton of photos when I was there last year and then more last weekend. I plan on tracking the changes to the place over the years. I'll try to post photos on here later. So, has anyone heard what they might or could do with this place? Anyone have any fun or creative ideas about what Branson could do with the area? I think it might be cool to turn some of the place into lofts or apartments and then lease out the rest to shops. They've done this to out of business strip malls in larger cities and it worked out pretty well. Not sure how feasible it would be in Branson. Something like a loft conversion would not be cheap. Maybe a hotel? Chances are they'll eventually bulldoze the place and build something a little more "modern" but hopefully that won't be for a long time.
With Red Roof now out of business, I wonder if White Water can move their marquee to where the Red Roof marquee is now and then get rid of that "main entrance drive" that no one ever uses.

Make room for one heck of an expansion and end my griping about Waterwater being blah.
Case Cutlery moved to Branson Meadows. Some of the other Red Roof stores were supposed to move to the Meadows, too, including Corningware and Tuesday Morning.
I thought the Meadows was about to go under also. Kind of surprised to hear stores moving in there.

With Osage Beach, Branson doesn't get the full allotment of stores it seems. I went to the Opry Mills last month and that place has it covered for the most part. Plus there's a bit of redudancy that some have their regular outlets at the Landing. Meadows has the VF outlet and thats a start. The trend I've seen like opry mills and the legends out in KCK is that there are themed restaurants like t-rex or rainforest cafe or aquarium and Dave and Busters and such to help lure more folks there.
Yes but I gurantee that those themed restaurants would rather open at the Landing as it is the "hot spot" right now, in Branson. I agree that a Rainforest Cafe, T-Rex or Bubba Gump or basically anything by Landry's would be nice.
Bubba Gump would fit well.

With only 3 "mall" areas left, i would go out on a limb and guess that meadows is properly being more aggressive looking for tenants, and i am sure they are cheaper than the landing..
So red roof closing down may the shot in the arm the meadows needs. ??? ???
SO Red Roof is ready for the rapture, post apocalyptic, or zombie movie filming to begin (I think this when I see places that are devoid of people).

They already have Joe's Crab Shack and White River Fish House. How many seafood places do you need on the Landing... or did you mean at the Meadows?

didn't Macaroni close down. Was there ever a Hooters or the rip off Showme down there before it was Shorty Smalls( which is gone now).
Macaroni Grill was at the Landing, but they closed a year or so ago.
I am just partial to Gumps. I like their look, feel. I think a microbrew weould work well.
I am not sure a microbrew can compete with old chicago in that close of an area.. (the landing)..
BUT, if they have cold beer, bring 'em on! i will give them a try. ;D
American made, local product....I'd be at the microbrew 10/10 times! We have a few local micro and nano breweries here in st Charles (about 45 min outside st louis, and they all do very well for that same reason.
I vote for T-Rex. Rainforest Cafe is cool, but T-Rex has a better menu (at least, comparing the RC and T-Rex I've been to).
I just went to Bubba Gump's for the first time ever this weekend, in Chicago. Gotta say... I think I prefer Joe's Crab Shack. JCS's menu has a better variety of choices.
I have never been to any of those eateries. I almost went to a RC. It was in a mall, I want to say KC mall. Anyhow, the menu was outside and I saw the prices and my family walked away. This was when I was a kiddo. Even now I dont think I would pay to eat there. I cant imagine the food would be that amazing.......but I have been wrong before.

it's not so much about the food as it is the experience. We recently took the kids to the Aquarium at Opry Mills. The food wasn't fantsfic but servicable but the shark swiming by our table was very cool. It's the experience that makes the cost easier to swallow.

I had never heard of T-Rex so I google imaged it. I want one SOOOO bad!

It was the RC at the Oak Park Mall in KC that I went to. The atmosphere is great, but the food is expensive and the choices aren't really that great. T-Rex is cheaper, has (IMHO) a better atmosphere, and the food is cheaper and there's a wider variety (if you don't want some fancy schmancy stuff, they have stuff like hot dogs and pizza).
Bubba Gump, Rainforest Cafe, T-Rex and Aquarium are all owned by Landrys. What else is that company doing these days? Oh they developed Kemah Boardwalk and Galvaston Pleasure Pier. What could use that type of redevelopement in Branson? (hint CC)
^I'd love them to build a new pier at Lake of the Ozarks. I know, a little off topic, but still

Its a good idea but the COE would likely be absolutly or next to impossible to deal with.

Lake of the Ozarks is a privately owned lake by Ameren Corporation (Union Electric). They built it. The COE has next to no say so on what goes on there. Hence every house, bar, restaurant, resort and hotel on the water has a dock. Ameren grants the dock permits. It's quite different from Table Rock or even it's upstream brother Truman Lake. That being said, it's not quite the free for all it used to be. Google "FERC LOTO shoreline management plan" and you get get a taste of another example of the Federal government sticking its nose where it doesn't belong. That has more to do with property rights than docks, but it's a pretty sore subject around here.
Swoosh, are talking about something like the old Casino Pier?
When I was in Branson two weeks ago there was only one shop left and out front it had a big banner stating yes they were open. The rest of the place was a ghost town. Anyone else know the latest on what will happen here?
I HAVE to get some time lapse / long term exposures of the place at night, because that is my best memory of going there...cool evenings shopping there as a kid.
Only new news I've been told is still going to be a sports complex or organic garden thing? There has not been any update in the local papers that I've found so far. Thinking I need to go to the next council meeting to find out. I'll ask some others around here too and see if anything new.....

That is also what i have read this summer.... but have not heard anything recently..
The stores from Red Roof that moved to Branson Meadows are: Tuesday Morning, Case Cutlery, Restaurant Supply, Kitchen Collection, Corningware/Revereware, Tools/As Seen on TV.
Is the Crocs outlet still open either there or moved to a new location? I liked having a place I could easily find more than just the "Classic Clog" Crocs

Croc is the last remaining store at Red Roof -- somehow they cut a deal with the city of Branson and extended their stay. All of the other stores had to move out; many of those went to Branson Meadows.
Went to Crocs on the 29th Sept. they said it was their last week and they would be moving to Tanger Outlet.
