General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Where in the City? (2016)

Teacup ride in Grand Expo?

Lightning Rod's opening has been delayed.  The e-mail from DW did not indicate when the new coaster might open, just said the manufacturer has asked for more time for testing.  Disappointing for sure for those who were heading down opening weekend.

Construction continues and the ride is taking shape.  Very little of the ride will be visible from the park itself.  It will be neat to blast out of the park and roll through the hills.  Red's Diner is also getting a makeover.  This new coaster will be a nice shot in the arm for that part of the park.

Went to Dollywood several times this past week.  Half way expected to go through security bag checks with the changes at SDC but did not have to.  I didn't really notice any changes in security practices at DW and didn't really notice any increase in security personnel.  On a side note, Lightning Rod (the part you can see anyway) is looking good.  Looking forward to riding it this spring!

Agreed.  I enjoyed every ride I took on it!

What are the people in the picture supposedly looking at?  They are not looking at the tavern.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / 2016 Season Passes
« on: October 30, 2015, 05:05:45 PM »
I was just looking over the e-mail for 2016 season passes.  Noticed there are a few tweaks for next year.  It said it was the final season for World-fest.  Are they just renaming and repurposing it in 2017 or is it truly going away?  They have added 6 days to Bluegrass and BBQ and September is now called "Heroes' Month".  They also added a Founders' Weekend in early May.

My kids loved CC as well.  We used to get to Whitewater at opening and hit it hard there for 3 or 4 hours and then grab some lunch at Wendy's across the street and head to CC for the evening.  Always made for a great day!

Branson Talk / Re: Branson Shuffle- Ready for 2015?

I read where Jim Stafford is coming back to Branson this year.  He will be doing shows in his old theatre.

While we were at Dollywood for Christmas I saw where they built a large new parking lot just across the railroad tracks from Thunderhead.  They had to clear a lot of land to make that happen.  I didn't catch the full message but the guy on the tram said they were undergoing a major parking lot reshuffle and reorganization for 2015.  It made me wonder if they are going to repurpose some of the parking that was near the front of the park for park expansion.  That would be one of the few flat areas they have left excluding the train loop on top of the hill.  They would have to rework the turnstiles a bit to accommodate the new park area if they moved it to the old parking lot but it got me to wondering.

My opinion is that this is a preemptive strike for the cold weekend ahead.

My parents were there last night and said they had a good time.  My dad thought the crowd was a bit less than last year.  Said the new parade was pretty good.  Will try to get more details.

A recent story about OTC in the Tri Lakes News said SDC traditionally gets around 200,000 visitors in November and another 100,000 in December.
