Other Parks / Re: Kentucky Kingdom/WA/FC Rumor

Purchasing Kentucky Kingdom isn't all that crazy of a prospect. That one would make sense, at least a little bit. Frontier City however? That's something I'm not confident in. Considering the massive amount of money that has been invested into improving the park all around, I don't see EPR and SF willing to sell it unless they planned from the beginning on investing into the park to raise its value and then selling it, sorta like flipping a house.

Add me to the list of people who would like to see some more flat rides added. Ride wise, once you get done riding all of the other major rides in the park, there's not much else to do in regards to rides. I know some people are apprehensive at the idea of flat's being built, but it isn't impossible to make a flat fit the theme unlike what some people say. The Giant Barn Swing is a prime example of that. And there's some good flats that can easily be marketed as family attractions since that what everyone seems to scream about needing in SDC'c facebook comment section. Though, anything that moves is likely perceived as "too extreme" to a lot of people complaining about the lack of new family additions.

That, and there is already another person posting in SDC's passholder group on facebook that they rode this morning. It seems that they're only letting roughly 50 people in line, and even that doesn't guarantee a ride as a lot of people towards the end of the line have been saying that the ride often shuts back down before they can board. I'm sure that more people will be able to experience it each day as they make further adjustments, though.

EDIT: It may have been a different group as I can't seem to find the post anymore. It had some really interesting photos that show the area around the first lift and elevator area.

That certainly helps make the elevator look a lot more full and complete, if you get what I mean. I'm not certain that the slide section of the drop will get the wood plank exterior like was shown in the concept art as I couldn't spot any brackets or mounts on it to mount such things. My real question is what they're gonna do with the area surrounding the base of the elevator lift. I took a peak at the area from the barn swing queue and plaza, and it was *very* bare. From what i saw, as you exit the end of the "mine shaft" tunnel section, you pull up onto a smaller lift that loads the rafts onto the elevator. After you exit that mine shaft, all there is to see is giant concrete walls and ride hardware. I'm hoping that they plan to cover that up with something as that would be a huge hole in the overall immersive ride experience. The least they could do is put up some wooden walls to make it fit the overall theme instead of it looking like some sort of infrastructure a city might build to control floods.

You're not the first person I've seen mention poor ride operations recently. All I keep hearing is how they're only running one train on coasters, one side on barn swing etc regardless of wait times. You'd think that they'd have more than one train to compensate for the lost capacity due to social distancing. I'd hope that they try to at least keep the dispatch times short, but I still don't quite understand their cleaning process. I keep hearing that they
either clean after every cycle or they clean after a certain number of cycles. I've even heard someone say that they will clean the entire train if they spot someone remove their mask while on ride. I guess I'll just have to see for myself next week.

To be fair, that seems to be how people are with masks at any place really. Unless it's somewhere that will kick you out at the sight of you not wearing your mask, people don't really seem to care. Though, if you really aren't near anyone, it seems reasonable to be able to temporarily take off the mask. I know they have the covered area by Wildcat setup as a designated spot for people to be able to remove their masks. Did it seem to be getting much use? Regarding employees, having talked to a friend of mine who is a operator there, they're being told that they are allowed to remove their masks while a ride is in motion given that they aren't interacting with any guests. Doesn't seem like a bad idea as it balances safety in regards to possibly spreading the virus and preventing additional heat fatigue from wearing a mask.

It's either that or simply because their PR team may not actually be on site since it may not be considered an absolutely essential job.

I think it would be reasonable to expect many shops and stalls being closed considering a good chunk of the employees who work them are elderly. I would imagine the only shops and food places being open will be the most popular and easiest to social distance in as well as ride gift shops.

Im curious, where did you see that SDC is closed through mid-April? That seems like a very generous date seeing how things have been progressing over the last few days. But, just to add to the confusion, some employees in a facebook group are saying that they're still trying to open on the 28th. That seems especially unlikely. Though, until the park officially updates us on the situation, i really don't know what to expect.

Only took 27 years! Much needed addition without a doubt. Im glad it's also a fully fabricated roof and not some canvas / cloth attatched to poles. Seems like it will last!

The park has begun testing Mystic River Falls. Teaser video on their Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10158094107142603&id=7656242602

Just a pet peeve but I really wish they would have stained the concrete to match the real rock work instead of raw gray.

I do agree there. Maybe the sun and elements will tan or bleach it a bit as time goes on. Otherwise the landscaping rockwork looks fantastic.
I've seen photos in a Facebook group that shows that they have done exactly that to parts of the trough. I don't know if that group allows their posts shared outside of the group, so I'll hold off on sharing it. But it's the Silver Dollar City Area Hosts group if you want to check it out yourselves. It shows the trough is in the process of being stained a rust like color as well as some photos of the surrounding area.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Opening Day 2020.

I had originally planned to visit on opening day, but i couldn't get time off from work until April (gotta love working in retail). While ill miss seeing the changes in the park for the season firsthand, ill atleast get to visit during the Festival of Wonder. In all my years of visiting the City, i haven't been in April. At least I'll be able to check that out!

As far as food goes, you have a lot of options around the park to choose from resturaunt and stand wise. But unfortunately, every resturaunt seems to sell the exact same food. Chicken Tenders, movie theatre style nachos, frozen burgers at some places etc. Usually when i visit, i just eat outside of the park because the choices are very poor in park.

It's also worth mentioning that the old abandoned hotel to the north is being leveled and completely removed. Local permits show that it is indeed Six Flags and Frontier City who are doing the work. On top of the boneyard cleanup, it seems that they are extremely interested in freeing up as much land as possible. What they're gonna do with all the land the own is beyond me. But i wouldn't be shocked to see some parking expansions in the park's future. The main lot was filled for most of my visits to FC this year, so its a reasonable expansion for them.

I always thought that the tracking of the ride, specifically the area you mention, felt the way it is due to the engineering and manufacturing that created it. I don't believe its an intentional effect, but is likely due to how the track is shaped in perfect circles. Specifically for that moment on the first drop, it is a perfect circle in the down motion, and a perfect circle in an upward motion. There is no transition or lead into the change from downward to upwards motion, making the transition a little jarring. You can find similar sensations on smaller Arrow mine trains caused by the exact same thing.
