I saw this picture on SDC's Facebook page. Has Dockside Theater always had "James River" on the facade or is this new? I don't recall seeing it before.

I am ambivalent about the new ride, not because I don't like it or because I don't think it will be popular, but because I am pretty sure I won't be able to tolerate riding it myself.  I don't do SDC for rides, anyway, but I did ride LR a couple times.  The rapids there were about the limit my back can take.  I don't think it will tolerate the new version (and I don't like heights AT ALL).

But I am sure it will make many people happy, so I am not complaining.

If the final product stays true to the concept art, I think this ride will contribute greatly to the overall atmosphere of the park. I am hopeful that it will make for an enjoyable area for non-riders as well. I am honestly a lot more excited about this ride and area than I was about Time Traveler and Outlaw Run. Those are both great rides, but the theme and surrounding areas were underwhelming to me. I think they've hit a home run all-around with this one!

The theming on this ride looks fantastic. I am thrilled that they are paying homage to Marvel Cave and the park's roots. Kudos to the PTB!! I can't wait to ride it!

If they ever need to re-record the "Red Flanders" audio, my family and I would like to audition. We always shout it along with the recorded audio when we ride. We get a lot of funny looks from newbies.  :D

Seriously though, you all know my thoughts on this ride. I hope and pray that the folks in charge recognize the value of vintage rides, particularly FITH and FM. There is definitely a place and demand for these rides.

It is close to the end of the helix. It almost feels like you are hitting a pothole in your car. It's not a subtle dip. It's a very sharp, jarring feel.

Thunderration has always been a very bumpy ride.  Haven't ridden recently but it's hard to imagine that it's significantly worse.

There is one specific place where it is noticeably worse. In fact, it's downright painful.

I rode Thunderation on Sunday, and one cannot help but notice the VERY rough bump that others have mentioned. Do some of the coaster experts know what's going on? Is that a fixable issue? It needs to be addressed.

We were at the City on Sunday, August 4. The weather and crowd levels were great. We walked on to nearly all the rides, and only waited about 15 minutes for Time Traveler.

We ate at the buffet in the Reunion Hall for the first time. I have been coming to SDC for 40 years, and have never stepped foot into the Reunion Hall. The food was great, reasonably priced (with a season pass discount), and it was a great respite during the day.

We also saw the saloon show, and it was great as usual!

The ONLY downside is the Moonlight Madness music. I loathe it. At some point during the day, someone flips a switch and the park goes from the lovely bluegrass ambiance music to modern pop-country. Don't even get me started on the street dance music!

Oh well...I suppose it's worth it to spend the day in my favorite place, and I know I always have the option of leaving during the extra hours. However, riding the rides at night is a lot of fun.

We will be back in October, and are looking forward to seeing what the new festival has in store!

(EDIT - I should also mention the bad bump in Thunderation. Others have mentioned it. Does anyone who understands coasters better than me know what's going on with that? Is it fixable? Man...it's rough and VERY noticeable.)

I'm excited about this ride. I hope there are some "cozy" areas in the new rib house like there was in the old one, but I fear it's going to have the same cafeteria feel as Crossroads Pizza. The old rib house was my favorite place to eat in the City. Time marches on!

Id argue that the Cave is the heart and soul of the park

Good point. I can't argue with that.

Palallin makes an interesting point. While I don't necessarily agree with him, this point has been made here before. "His" SDC is the pre-1972 SDC. He misses that era, and doesn't care for some of the later changes. "My" SDC is the SDC of the late-80's and early-90's, and I don't care for some of the later changes. For my kids, however, "their" SDC is the SDC of 2003-present, and they love the city as much as I did in the 1980's (and still do). Time marches on for everyone.

(However, if anyone from SDC is reading this, PLEASE do not kill-off Fire in the Hole and the Flooded Mine! They are the heart and soul of SDC!)  ;) ;) ;)

I hope there is an attempt at some good theming throughout the ride. SDC is very good at theming the stations, but it would be nice if the entire ride experience is themed. We just got back from a week at Disney, and one cannot help but be amazed at the quality of the entire ride experience at the Disney parks. There's no reason that SDC shouldn't be competing with them in the theming area. Is it a question of money or a question of will?

When I was younger, I was always freaked out by the saw blade. The blade used to "come off" and roll toward the boats. At the same time, the lights would go out and you couldn't see what was going on. The 10 year-old version of me knew that it was only a matter of time before the thing malfunctioned and sliced me in half!

Branson Talk / Re: New Hotel/Motel to stay in?
« on: April 01, 2019, 08:40:47 AM »
Twelve Oaks Inn is an older motel with great rates. I have been staying there for years, and it is typically cleaner than a pen. You can generally get rooms for around $50 per night.
