General Silver Dollar City Talk / Tennessee Tragedy
« on: November 29, 2016, 01:51:06 PM »
The media is reporting that the Smoky Mountain wildfires have reached the edge of Dollywood. Not good. And sounds like it may only get worse due to unfavorable weather conditions. Thoughts and prayers going out to all of the people affected.

Construction/Rumors / SDC Classics Revitalization
« on: August 19, 2014, 08:55:49 PM »
[ADMIN EDIT: I've Split this topic off from the main future projects discussion since it follows a specific tangent - Shave]

It's been hashed and re-hashed a thousand times on this site. Does anyone even remotely close to being "in-the-know" have any reason to believe that the PTB see any value in taking a year to re-invest in updating and improving any of SDC's classic attractions. I think the majority of those who frequent this forum would be in favor of seeing AP, FITH and FM receive some legitimate love in terms of updating and theming to really bring these back to life. Just wonder how realistic it is that this will ever happen, versus simply leaving them be and keeping them up with routine maintenance, or allowing them to run their course until they fall victim to "progress" like so may other beloved SDC attractions.

Just wondering if anyone has any real insight on this subject.

Construction/Rumors / TNT - Could it ever be expanded?
« on: January 29, 2012, 08:17:58 PM »
Does anyone think it would ever be possible to extend the circuit on TNT? It's a fantastic ride, but It's always bugged me how short the ride is, particularly how abruptly it comes to a end after the long lift and offers a mere single drop to close the circuit.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / SDCFans.com t-shirts
« on: January 14, 2011, 01:08:39 PM »
Hello all. Hope everyone had a great holiday season. I've been absent for a while, but wanted to share a SDCFans.com shirt design a co-worker developed for me. Take a look and if you're interested, you can buy a number of items featuring the design. I will not profit from any sales. However, with any purchase, a $1 or $2 donation will go to support the fight against melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer and fastest growing form of all cancers in the U.S. Hope you like the design as much as i do. To view and purchase items with the design, visit http://www.cafepress.com/SDCFans

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Christmas Festival Recommendations
« on: October 27, 2010, 02:08:32 PM »
Okay, folks. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've never been to SDC during the Christmas Festival. My wife and I are hoping to finally make it down this year and possibly bring our young one with us. I was hoping all you city veterans out there could share your must-do's and favorite things in general about the festival.

Obviously there zillions of lights, and the Christmas Carol production at Echo Hollow (any good, by the way?). Just wondering if any of you have any tips for getting the most out of a day at the park during the festival? Any favorite foods (and places to get them), etc.

Hard to believe we're little more than a week away from the festival opening.

Yesterday, I was in the city for the first time this season. I was able to locate a construction marker in the woods around the former WB site. Nothing overly telling, other than proof that something appears to be planned for the area at some point. I must say though, there sure seems to be a lot more usable space in that area than I originally imagined.

Some overall observations from our visit:

1) The park was very clean and all of the staff seemed as friendly as always

2) Food was terrific

3) The park was packed. I've never seen it that busy the second week of October

4) We tried unsuccessfully yet again to purchase a baseball bat with the SDC logo on it and were told HFEC/SDC execs will not allow it. I still cannot figure out how everything else in the park (including custom gifts) can feature the park's own logo, but it's not allowed on a baseball bat their own employees handcraft in the park itself. They're really missing a huge opportunity to probably increase sales for that item by not allowing it.

5) Lastly, while we enjoyed our trip as much as we always do, I was surprised and extremely disappointed that my wife and I had to spend $113 just to enter the park. Of course we paid it, but I think it's absurdly high. Almost $60 for a one-day ticket. Yes, I realize we could have purchased two-day tickets for the same price elsewhere, but we weren't able to commit to two days at the park. Regardless, I think something between $45 and $50 would be more appropriate.
