General Silver Dollar City Talk / 2016 Season Passes
« on: October 30, 2015, 05:05:45 PM »
I was just looking over the e-mail for 2016 season passes.  Noticed there are a few tweaks for next year.  It said it was the final season for World-fest.  Are they just renaming and repurposing it in 2017 or is it truly going away?  They have added 6 days to Bluegrass and BBQ and September is now called "Heroes' Month".  They also added a Founders' Weekend in early May.

Other Parks / Holiday World 2015 Project
« on: July 25, 2014, 05:30:42 PM »
I see where Holiday World announced their 2015 project last night.  It's going to be the world's first launched wing coaster.  It will be their biggest ever investment at $22 million dollars.  Looks like it's going to be a nice ride.  They have good info at their website.  First steel coaster for HW.

Dollywood Discussion / Forest Fire Near Dollywood
« on: March 18, 2013, 06:08:17 PM »
Just heard on the news where the forest fire near Pigeon Forge was just miles away from Dollywood.  At least that's what the reporter said. DW had a post on their facebook page thanking all the firefighters who fought a brush fire that got near the park Saturday.  They indicated there was no damage to DW and they will open as scheduled later this week.  DW mentioned the fire near them Saturday is not related to the one firefighters are battling now. It appears several rental cabins have burned down and several people have had to be evacuated.  Here's hoping they can get the fires under control and there is no more damage to a beautiful area of our country.  I think the DW post mentioned Wears Valley.

Other Parks / Holiday World/Splashin Safari New in 2010
« on: August 15, 2009, 04:34:53 PM »
Holiday World and Splashin Safari have announced their new waterpark ride for 2010.  It's called Wildebeest and it's billed as the world's longest water coaster. It's 1/3 mile long and the ride will last two and a half minutes. The interesting thing about the ride is that it will use linear induction motors to propel the rafts and riders will go up a conveyor lift hill to a four story drop at a 45 degree angle. The ride will feature seven more hills, a helix, and three tunnels, two of which are underground. The illlustration on their website seems to indicate it's going to be a fun ride. I know they use linear induction for roller coasters but I've never heard of it being used in a water ride. Splashin Safari is a great waterpark that gets better every year. The Koch family does a great job improving their park.

I know it's only a preseason game, but it's great to see football back.  Who are you thinking is going to win it all this season?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Kidsfest: Stay or Go?
« on: August 07, 2009, 10:11:08 PM »
Another Kidsfest is almost over. I wonder if this festival has run its course and exhausted all avenues, or is it just in need of a makeover. What does everyone think? Does Kidsfest need to stay or should it go away? Should it be replaced with another festival during the summer or should SDC not have a special theme and just focus on making the park the best it can be? I would like to see them focus on the park and not feel the need for a gimmick.  I didn't think the shows during this Kidsfest were all that great. Jeerk was ok, just not the kind of show you would expect at SDC. Maybe that's what they wanted.  The magic show was alright but don't get me started on the Veggie Tales. Maybe do away with Kidsfest, expand Moonlight Madness and really do the summer up right. Then they could bring the laser light show over from CC like Swoosh wants and cap the evening off with that. I realize Kidsfest is good business for SDC, but it's my least favorite festival.

(Admin edit: changed title to clarify topic  ;))

General Silver Dollar City Talk / What Would You Do?
« on: August 06, 2009, 08:52:11 PM »
If the powers that be at SDC came to you and asked what one thing you would do to improve the park, what would your answer be?
