Branson Talk / Re: RFD Theatre
« on: February 26, 2024, 06:25:21 AM »
How long has it been since this has been open?

I think 1 of the Acrobatic shows was there in 2018. When I was in Branson earlier this month I noticed that several motels on SOH Expressway that used to be independents now have banners up for various chains. I heard something last year about plans for the Honeysuckle to be renovated.

My hotel of choice the last few years has been the Barrington near the Mansion Theater. It shut down after Christmas for a major renovation project. I was told that when it reopens this spring it will have a Hilton affiliation.

There was an article in the Branson Tri-Lakes News recently about the city shutting down some lodging places by turning off the water due to lack of payment or due to lack of a current business license. Some had not had a current license since 2022.

Was Ray Stevens, Country Tonight, and some other shows over the years. The old Caprice Motor Inn on the strip has also been torn down. The Dick Clark American Bandstand Theater is now the Pepsi Legends Theater.

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC Resort Survey
« on: October 21, 2023, 10:55:22 AM »
^ We usually just get the Guest Survey in our email right after a visit to the park.  We almost never get surveys regarding resorts, etc.  My guess is that they have an algorithm that chooses who to send the surveys too.  The guest surveys we get always ask the question "How many were in your party- including yourself?"  Since we usually just have my wife and I- and sometimes our daughter- then we wouldn't have a party that needed a very large room or suite of rooms.  So, for that reason, we probably wouldn't make a primary list of guests to get an email regarding a resort.  Just a guess on my part.

It's just 2 of us -- my husband and me. I haven't had a season pass since 2021 although my husband had one in 2022. I used to frequently get the guest survey emails when I had a season pass, and on occasion received other surveys. Maybe they think a resort would help to lure me into buying a season pass again.

The first design and the one that had the most questions about it was the Herschend, a 1950s style country estate. There was one that looked like something from a national park like Yellowstone, another one that focused on craftsmanship (had Chihuly type glass lighting fixtures), another one that reminded me of Adirondack style with lots of stone and wood.

Construction/Rumors / SDC Resort Survey
« on: October 06, 2023, 04:18:17 PM »
Received a Silver Dollar City survey email today -- mainly about a possible SDC resort. Had 4 different options of building design. Asked about perks I would value staying at the resort -- tickets for SDC, free parking, shuttle from the resort to the city, fast pass, show lovers pass, food package for the park, early admission to the park, etc. Average night rate would be $199.99.

There were also questions about how often I visited Branson, what attractions I visited, when was my last visit to SDC.

Anyone else get this survey?

Thanks for keeping this going. Even though this is a year off for me from SDC, I still check in often to keep up with what is happening at the park.

ON TOPIC: Here are several photo updates of current projects

Parking Lot
http://www.midwestinfoguide.com/2023/02/city-update-parking-sdc.html

We've heard that this project won't be completed until this summer, so it will be interesting to see where they will park everyone here in a couple of weeks when the park opens for the season on March 11th

Understatement of the year? Decade? Century?

Drove through the area on Tuesday, 2/21. It's hard to imagine the park being ready to open March 11. Maybe the large paved lot out at Notch will be used for parking.

There was a public forum in December about significant changes to Highway 76 and Indian Point Road.

The Thunderation incident fine is a slap on the wrist. That was such a tragic loss of life. What a crappy year for SDC. The last few years in general have been terrible for them.

I was surprised to see the fine was a little over $14,000. Thought it would have been much higher.

Don't know who owns it but we have been staying at the Barrington Hotel near the Mansion Theater for the past 2 years. Has a hot breakfast buffet and most nights has dessert offered.

Has always been very clean and is quiet. Rooms have darkening shades and a mini fridge. There is a microwave on each floor by the ice machine. Hotel is in process of being renovated. Some rooms have both cable and streaming TV. There is also an indoor pool and spa.

We usually pay 69 - 89 -- rates go up on weekends plus will also go up some more on nights there is a big concert at the Mansion since it is within walking distance. You can see the room rate for the night when you make reservations on the website.

Nearby is Big D's BBQ, Culver's, Panda House, McDonald's, Pizza Ranch, Noodle 21, and other restaurants and shopping.

Missed getting a Christmas ornament by 1 festival and the employee refused to sell it to us. Said we had to come back next year in order to buy one. We were waffling on buying 1 season pass and using BAFs like we did this year but the extra high price on the pass plus the attitude of the employee confirmed our decision not to buy so we waited in line for 30 minutes for nothing.

Glad they stuck to their gut and didn’t sell it to you to be honest. Seemed like you were the one with an attitude and not the employee, they have their own rules to follow. 🤷🏻‍♂️

He didn't say that it was against the policy to sell it to us. We didn't have this issue before so if it is policy, we didn't know, and he didn't inform us. There were only 2 employees selling passes, and they needed help. There was also an issue with the people he waited on before us. We just said thank you for your time and we left.

Read in a recent issue of Branson Tri-Lakes News that this motel has been sold to a developer who is converting it to more permanent lodging. It's the same developer who bought the nearby Angel Inn and converted it.

Was there on Sunday 11/20 12:30 to 7:30. Very busy, long lines, had to be prepared to wait to ride, to attend shows, and to buy food and drinks. Poor women at the stand by the saloon where frozen lemonade is usually sold was working by herself trying to make various food in a waffle cone, sell drinks, and take money. She definitely needed help. Quickest place to get food and drink was the new place across from the Boatworks that is set back off the sidewalk and backs up to Foggy Hollow. We got in and out in about 5 minutes.

Speaking of Foggy Hollow why go to the effort to hang all of those lights in the trees and not have them on during the Christmas festival? Why wasn't the pathway open?

Coming Home for Christmas was okay but it reminded me of what Andy Williams used to do during his Christmas shows on TV and in his theater except there was no big name star in this show. At times there was just polite applause at the expected applause spots in between songs.

The performers in Dickens seemed much more comfortable with the new music this year. Applause was much more enthusiastic during this show. We enjoyed it.

Also saw the saloon show. I have not ever seen such a long line at the bar before the show started. People were really wanting hot drinks becaue the day was so cold. Not much of a story to this year's show. We didn't make it to the Living Nativity at the Dockside or the Spoken4 gospel quartet show at Riverside or the parade.

From car tags seen at the park and around Branson more and more people are coming from further away. Also more and more people must have off all of Thanksgiving week. We were in Branson Sunday - Tuesday and it was busy.
