That is a thought...what kind of crowd is expected anniversary weekend? My wife is tolerant of us going that weekend because she knows it means so much to me. She's not big on walking around in heat all day, or big crowds. Maybe if I had some info on projection for the weekend I could prep her. If I can get her mentally prepared for the day, she is less likely to whine and moan...cause it's a big deal to me to get to visit the park and visit with old friends at the employee reunion.

My unscientific prediction is that if you enjoy riding the thrill rides, then the anniversary weekend is the worst possible time to go. However, if you want to go just for the experience, and celebration then go for it! You will be a part of Silver Dollar City history.  :)

I've decided that I'm gonna focus on video/photos and celebration shows on May 1st and skip the whole riding rides thing ('cept if I've got friends with me who wanna ride together).

What is the single day attendance record for SDC? Becuase I'm making a prediction that it will be shattered on May 1.

That didn't happen to be on a mid-December Saturday a handful of years ago? 'Cause I seem to recall when I went with my sis and her (now-ex) boyfriend, at the latter part of the day we heard whispers that the park was at capacity and they would have to start turning people away because of fire regulations...

Okay thank you for the trivia information about the highest attendance record, but please don't keep us in the dark! :D

What day was it, and what made it so special?

I did work a day in 79 that capacity exceeded 20,000. It was a crazy day, I was glad when it was over.

I was there as a guest, and it was more than crazy.  We parked further away than ever before, and the streets of the city were ALL elbow to elbow.  Our bus driver had driven to parking lots for the entire day.  And yes it was the Christmas season, 2008.
