I am not really familiar with NEA since I taught for corrections and we were represented by AFSCME.

I only know that they were always having trouble getting an affordable health insurance for the teachers in the public sector.

All in all I just feel like the politicians and the union gurus have forgotten what it was like on the front line.

You've got that right.  And it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Even being an NEA member, and a tenured teacher with 2 K-12 certifications, every one of my 7 years teaching has ended with my position being on the chopping block. Well I am off in a few minutes here to take ANOTHER Praxis in hopes of having another"feather in my cap" Social Studies 6-9 this time. Ughh why do I do this to myself?

I just want to say--

My grades are due this week.

I am a grading fool.

Why do I assign work again?

Friday was the last day of classes for 3rd Qtr (even with the pushed back start and all of the snow days) - so grades are due on Lumen Monday at the end of school... Parent/Teacher Conferences are Thursday (otherwise I'd be at SDC) and then no school Friday (which is why I will be at SDC that day).

Spring Break starts on the 31st and goes through the 6th.

47 days to go for us, starting March 22!  A long quarter, but the end of a tough year is in sight.

Once I hit Spring Break, the "hard part" of the school year is over.
I have MSHSAA District Solos this coming weekend and then the District Band contest the following weekend with the JH/HS Spring Concert on the following Monday.

Only think I really have after Easter is a marching competition in May and the elementary band concert at the end of April.... oh and graduation, but that is no biggie.

We have 46 days left as of Monday

We're like your school, Swoosh, only our grades are due in Lumen Tuesday.  Parent/teacher conferences are Thursday.  I'd have Friday off, but we have our district National Forensics League tournament Friday and Saturday, so no opening day weekend for me.  I suppose we could have gone Sunday, but that would be too exhausting, I think.

We really don't have a true spring break this year.  We get Thursday, Friday, and Monday on Easter weekend, I think it is.  I don't think they're taking any of it for make-up days, anyway.

I'm just glad it's fourth quarter.  The end is in sight.  This has been a tough year for me, too.  We added a family member in August, so I've had to learn new ways to balance everything in my life, and I'm not always successful, unless you call "survival" success!

My husband and I are taking a much needed couple-only trip for the 50th weekend.  We plan to leave as soon as I am off work that Friday.  I'm excited that the park will be open late that Friday and Saturday!

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..."

Or at least winter.

Wonder if we'll have school tomorrow...

My father-in-law texted us with the same phrase yesterday.  I thought about replying with a Christmas list.  Hey, it worked in December.

One more day out and we're into June.  Weird that it would be the Tuesday after Memorial Day - half-day of school that should just be waived.  I wonder what attendance will be like.

Most of the snow we got up here has blown off the ground.  We'll definitely have school tomorrow - but I highly doubt we'll be able to get our track meets and baseball games scheduled for this week in.

But Swoosh, you would have school even with a foot of snow on the ground...
