When you stop, and think about it, it is unbelievable that the tower hasn’t been struck by lightening before. It sat high, and in the middle of an isolated tree clearing. I am assuming that it didn’t have much in way of lightening protection. I certainly wouldn’t want to hang out in the control booth during a Thunderstorm. :P

I have wondered in the past how many times that decorative piece of Powderkeg track that sticks straight up in the air near the launch area has been struck by lightning.

At least once! That is why it is all blackened, and mangled at the top.
