As a 'lifer' (30+ years and counting) I can't imagine the venue without the crafting theme - isn't that what it was all about to start with? Showing how individuals created things/lived in the 1880's. I've told before of my Crafter for a Day experience making soap - we had a LOT of people stopping by that day (although it has been about 15 years...God I'm old...when did that happen!!!). I agree with KBCraig in that quilting is NOT exciting to watch, it's a pretty slow and arduous process. As a spinner I'd love to see that demonstrated, after all, it was something that they did often in those days. You could involve kids/adults as well, learners spindles are easy to make and cheap too. I remember them making root beer when I was young and apple butter too. It'd be terribly sad if any/all went away  :(
