Branson Talk / Re: Pirate Cove Mini Golf
« on: June 27, 2011, 01:17:28 PM »
My kids absolutely love Pirate's Cove.  I think it's probably the best mini golf in Branson, although admittedly I haven't tried some of then newer ones around town.

There is a similar sign close by the frogs and butterflies, but that's not it.  I really don't know where that one is other than being somewhere at GE.

1892 removes basketball from the theme in an 1880s theme park.

But didn't they used to have signage somewhere at the park even into the early 1990s as something like traveling back 100 years in the past?  I know they did when I was younger, and I believe they still did even at that time.

I know it's a stretch.   ;D

I know what you mean, though.  I don't like kids bouncing them around, but I don't recall it being much of an annoyance last year as when they were first introduced.

The first basketball game was played in 1892, so that can fit in with the theme, even though it didn't completely resemble today's game until a little while after that.

I talked to some of my friends that work at the park today and they said that the reason was that the cars were never made to run backwards and it was tearing them up.  They had to do maintance on the backwards were 2 or 3 times more often.

Hmm, but wasn't it debuted with backwards cars? I would have thought Arrow planned for that instead of letting them just flip a couple of cars around. In any case, after 15 years it seems silly to end the tradition now, unless there are serious issues finally cropping up. Could it be a sign that the ride is headed out at some point?

It did not debut with backwards cars.  I think they started that a year or two after.

Never heard of Crystal's.  Where are they based out of?

Used to have a few Taco Buenos here in Springfield, but they all closed down after only maybe a year or so at most.

Was Track #2 the little one closest to Hwy 65 on the strip?  Or was that one taken out a long time ago?

That was actually Track 1 and yes, it's been gone even longer than Track 2. The one on Green Mountain is just called The Track at Pirates Cove. No number.

OK.  I never went to Track 1, but I remember driving by it all the time.

Yep, HH is too cramped.  I too have no problem with razing or drastically changing it to make it more accommodating.

Yeah, there was a fiberglass man's arm in the center of the whirlpool with a hat in the hand, going round and round in that whirlpool all day long! Good humor. The boat in the photo above is just about to enter the cave at the whirlpool. Today, the AP "log" would leaving the tunnel and entering the whirlpool at this point. The flow of water in the AP is reversed from the float trip days. At one point, there may have been a sign posted along the whirlpool warning boat passengers about the danger. I know this stock photo from SDC above had a caption that read "help this man out if you can as your boat passes by" in the 1970 booklet I have.

Me and my brother used to always say that was Indiana Jones in the whirlpool, as I believe the hat was a fedora (or something similar to one).

Thanks for the suggestions.  We actually also stayed at Cameron's Crag once as well, and it is pretty nice.

We decided to go with Dear's Rest B&B, which is kind of mid-way between Nixa and Branson West.  There is only one cabin, so we'll be the only people staying the night we are going.

Finally get to answer first, and I have no clue at all where that is.   :(

That was a different time and era...family or friends probably pushed the person in a wheelchair across the bridge. Not much thought initially went into things like that back then.

Yeah, I know things weren't as accessible for handicapped people back then.  I just wondered if there was some other entrance that they would allow people to use.  But pushing someone across the bridge on a wheelchair could very well be what they did.
