Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2009/10 Project
« on: September 25, 2008, 10:51:51 PM »
Am I wrong about this,  but is it not a concern that if this is a splash battle with waterguns, that with Geyers Gluch and Splash Habor that this is too much of a water gun attraction in one area?  Why not bring back Ruban Dugan's Diving Bell in this area, now that was a ride everyone loved.

I remember that they use to play classsical music as you decended the stairs and walkway at the beginning of the tour. Why was it taken out , I always thought it added to the excitment of the tour.

Some of you old timers tell us some stories about the shooting of the episodes of the Beverly Hillbillies. How did that come about and  what was it like?

One of my favorite times at the saloon was when Miss Tilley let out one of her giggles, a baby in the floor seats did a perfect imitations of her,  this broke everyone up.

Well since I started going to SDC in 1966, the only portion of the park was from the hotel down to the Flooded mines and the train, the only two rides in the park.  They had a Civil war  cannon firing competition between the North and South to the left of the Church where they would shot oil cans filled with cement down into the valley at a sheet that was hung in the trees from old cannons. One of my favorite street show was down by the saloon, a railmaker had a cart that demontrated his rainmaking machine.  All the kids would help by turning nobs and pumps. After they had worked so hard at this, the rain maker would declare the rain had come and a spinkler in the tree would come on a produce the rain. They brought this show back a couple years ago next to the bakery and a guy on top of the building behind you would get you wet with a waterhose. Oh and the flooded mine did not have the guns.  In the shanty town area of Lake Silver, when the train came by, the conductor would discover that someone had taken his boat at his favorite fishing hole, he would shot at this guy and a leak would appear in the boat.

I love the robbery skits, especially when they forget their line and have to go improv.

Branson Talk / Re: Where do you stay when you go to Branson?

We stay at the Notch Estates Nightly Rentals Condos. @ bedroom/2 bath Condo Just a mile  past SDC on 76 and behind the Notch Inn.  It is quiet.  Has two outdoor pools. It cost $130.00 a night ( which is what you would pay for 2 rooms in a good motel for a family of 5-6). You have a kitchen to save on meals if you like and the Branson West Wal-Mart supercenter is only a mile away.  Coming from Springfield, the Ozark Mt. Highroad makes getting to it great by avoiding all the traffic in Branson. The Condos are well kept up, the surrounding countryside view from your deck it great ( see different wildlife on each visit).  They even have a onsite launderymat if you need it. They decorate the building during the Christmas season.   And if the Indian Ridge waterpark/ golf coarse is completed, it will be a half mile down the road.  These condos sit on the ridge above the Ledgestone golf coarse.

Hi, I am new to this forum and though I could add to the discussion.  I hve been coming to SDC since 1966 and have seen it change over the years with some things that I liked and didn't like. I wished that Thunderation went under ground more like the original model showed. I like the fact that Buzzsaw Falls became  Powder Keg because it was just a major disappointment for a thrill ride.  I hope that the Tree House becomes something good with the new work going in. I would like them to do something with the water fall behind the Lumbercamp, there just seem to be some potential with this attraction ( unless its port of the air conditioning system). I would like to see the rest of the Jim Owens track be used for a new ride.  I wish the would keep up the special effects that are added to the rides when they open( like Powder Kegs explosions and the gyser at Gyser Gluch.)
