General Silver Dollar City Talk / early paark entrance

Since I haven't gotten a season pass yet this year, I want to know if you can get into the park early with a regular one day pass or if you bought a season pass at the gate. Coming on May 1 and would like to get in for breakfast before the festivities start.

Dolly was just on Fox and friends and anounced that this was Dollywood's year to celebrate its 25th year in business. Hope it doesn't take any of SDC's aniversary fanfair.

Since this is the 50th year for SDC, when was your first visit and what do you remeber of the City.  My first visit was approximetly 1966, I was 11. The City ran from town square to the FM. The Train and FM were the only major rides that were there along with other smaller rides that were powered by animals. You had to pay for each ride individually then. They would have a contest between Confederate and Union Troops firing cannons at a target down into the valley from where the School House is.   Branson only really came up 76  to where the Grand Country Inn is and that was where the WAl-Mart store was with an entertainment area of carnival rides / miniture golf  in the parking lot.  The only shows were the Baldknobbers, Presleys, Foggy River Boys, and the Brashlers. SDC and SOTH were the only big attractions available. The fish hatchery at the Dam still used gravel bed ponds for the trout. I remember having a blast camping at Table Rock State Park in the back of our station wagon.

Being on the outside and coming to the park for over 40 years I have alway said I would like to work at the park when I retire. Can any of you fine citizens who have or are now employed say anything about your experience or make any recommendations? What areas are most older employees place in  or does prior expericence count? ( Nurse for 28 years)

When SDC was young, it was run like a city, with Shad having to run for Mayor in a election campaine and the workers acually playing the role of being a citizen. What would it take to return to that kind of atmosphere. I know some of the workers do play the part some of the time ,but what a change it would make if all the employees felt like they were real citizens.

For along time during the 90's and maybe the early 2000's , every time I would go to a Cajun Connection  show there was an older fat man that would get up and dance during the show. He looked like he could have had a Coronary at any time. Was he actually part of the show or was he someone that just showed up for every show. Is he still alive? Who was he?

I remember that they use to play classsical music as you decended the stairs and walkway at the beginning of the tour. Why was it taken out , I always thought it added to the excitment of the tour.

Does anyone know what became of the proposed Wizard of Oz Park in Kansas or heard anymore about Disney building a park around Joplin?
