eh, IMO, Dollywood is just a large busted step-sister to the first born & favorite child; SDC.

Of all the things they could bring back "the original design" to; interesting choice.

Great report & Great pictures!

Half Dollar Holler looks a lot better with kids and families roaming around it!

Also, good to see the Dugan name brought back!

^ Amen Brother!

Right about now Junior should be sitting down to a nice hearty breakfast at the Mill.
I guess I'll just enjoy my eggo waffles and a cup of coffee for now, until we can hopefully get there next week.

Imagine if the whole ride was still sitting there and not operating.  The tower's not unsightly, but the whole slide would just loom there like a ghost town.

Kinda like Huck Finn's Hideout!

Growing up as a kid in the early 90's, the beginning part of our day at SDC ALWAYS consisted of: Grandfathers Mansion, Huck Finns Hideout, Ballroom, Baloon Chase.

At least I can still experence Grandfathers Mansion!  :-\

HOLY COW! The swinging bridge looks totally different now! I too, am VERY glad that it is still there, but it does look very out of place now.
Also, glad to see the ropes (or net maze as they call it). Kinda brings back the good ole days of Tom Sawyers Landing ropes (just on a much smaller scale, and closer to the ground)

I too am only aware of the blue and brown balls. The ball pit was one of my favorite places to go as a young child. As I had mentioned in another thread, I always called them "new balls" because they changed them from brown to blue, and the name stuck for many years! I was always VERY scared to climb the ropes above the ball pit, because I thought I would fall (of course my feet were about the size of the opening!)
Because we went to Silver Dollar City so many times, the girl who worked at the Ball Pit always remembered me, and even called me by name. My dad tells that story a lot.  ;D

Do any SDC Citizens know if Huck Finns Hideout was taken down during off-season or is it indeed still there? I'm assuming it is still standing, since no one has brought it up; but just curious.

I hope they aren't getting rid of the Nativity that was in the Red Gold Hall.
[/quote]

I hope not either. The production has changed over the years (even though the basic storyline will forever stay the same). At one time it was located behind the Wilderness Church, where showgoers would sit on simple bales of hay and watch a very touching, simple version of The Nativity. It then has changed locations several times, and in various formats at Red Gold; it was even in 'the round' for a couple of years, with the town of Bethlaham serounding the center stage. I feel the version that has been performed for the past few seasons has put on a 'musical' like quality, and has just seemed off to me.
I for one (as a Christian) am very please that we can go to a Theme Park and have the previledge of even seeing "The Living Nativity" played out.
Even the lighting of the Christmas Tree at the lighting ceremony, talkes about the life of Christ, and that has even brought my family to tears at times; Along with Grandpa on the train ride...its perfect....its simple.
For me, simplicity is the way to go with The Living Nativity.

^ Thanks for that posting DianaGail. Read the article and the majority of the comments; like one person said, maybe someone else will purchase it (since it might possibly go for cheap) and turn the place around with better food. We always went for the unique atmosphere and the sopapillas.

My wife and I don't have typical Sat/Sun weekends, so depending if we are both off on 3/17 we plan on taking a day trip for opening day.

^ I'll be sure to look for that on our next visit to LROTO. Love random memorabilia like that!
