Other Parks / Re: Frontier City Developments
« on: December 08, 2011, 03:00:21 PM »
Drove by Frontier City today. I couldn't find any evidence of work occurring inside the park (go cart, or maintenance area) nor at the proposed parking lot expansion.

But I did find a Standard Testing bore truck in the employee lot by the offices. The truck was up close to the fence and "in line" with the lift hill for the Wildcat. Not sure what it would mean, but it was very close to the fence line to the park and right next to the coaster....do you think they might be doing a re-design of the Wildcat?

What we do know now, is they are testing the soil to determine its bearing capacity, and we know the location of those tests.

I have attached a photo for you to see what I'm talking about, also in that photo you will see a wooden stake that is close to the roadway. I'm still not sure why that would be there unless there was going to be some kind of road modification.

I just recieved a text from Dollywood that said if you buy a 2012 Dollywood season pass you can enjoy Dollywood's Christmas Festival for FREE. So basically, the 2012 Dollywood pass also includes what's left of 2011.

Has anyone heard if Silver Dollar City is doing the same thing?

Or it just not be the BIG coaster that we all dream of.

My bet is they begin construction summer 2012 so it is ready early in the spring 2013.

I drove by Frontier City yesterday and tried my best to see any activity that might be developing. I did see some survey markers (stakes) and utility flagging around the parking lot of the offices. Unfortunately, I don't think this really has anything to do with the park, but looked to be possible roadway improvements for Coltrane Road. The stakes extended from where Coltrane Road intersects with the I-35 service roadway back to the first drop of Wildcat (where they stopped).

I really couldn't see anything in the park, but the go cart track still looks intact with the cars lined up in the station.

We have seen flag markers before, with nothing to come from it (example: Waterboggan). Since flag markers could be used for different types of surveying, it will be difficult to come up with any concrete answers just yet.

It would be nice if these new flags continued around the lake and tied into the flags that were surveyed for the Waterboggan area.

A nice long "out and back" type twister coaster similar to Prowler would be great. A wild fast ride through the trees and close to the ground, might cut down on construction time too...

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC Survey May 2011
« on: May 04, 2011, 03:48:03 AM »
Did they have concept art and if so did you take a screen shot like a good boy would?

Sorry Swoosh, I made the post and took the survey on my phone....At first I posted the link to the survey so everyone could see it, but when I went to look at the survey again I noticed it asked me if I wanted to make corrections to my earlier answers. That's when I realized it was a specific link just for me so I removed it from my post.

Thank you tinaalsgirl for posting the concept art and descriptions. Is it too much to ask for SDC to give us all three over the next couple years?

Construction/Rumors / SDC Survey May 2011
« on: May 03, 2011, 01:33:30 PM »
I just was sent an email and finished taking a survey for "future" attractions for Silver Dollar City.

There were three concepts:
1) a stage coach themed MotoCoaster (similar to Pony Express at Knotts)
2) a S&S launch tower
3) "The Bull" wooden coaster

Of course my vote went to The Bull.

Edit: I removed the link because it was a specific link tied directly to me.

Based from the pictures of HDH, there are a few things about the attraction that I don't really like. I don't like the swings at all, especially how you can look down on top of the ride structure, and as a parent of a small child there doesn't look to be a way for me to view or get pictures of my child on the ride. Another part of the attraction I don't care for is the look of the rope play structure, why couldn't it be enclosed in other tree houses, or some other effect.

But I guess the main thing that disappoints me is the choice for the location of this project. From the pictures, I just don't like the way it blends with the rest of the park structures that surround it, and the tree houses just don't seem to fit with the "City".

Hopefully my opinion is proven wrong when I view it in person.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: New Survey
« on: March 02, 2011, 09:04:45 AM »
If I drink a pop, I usually go with Coke Zero for a first choice. I do like Coke over Pepsi, Diet Coke over Diet Pepsi (no comparison there), and I also like the Sprite and Sprite Zero products better than Sierra Mist. My family likes Dr. Pepper over Mr. Pibb, but I don't drink either. I don't know about Missouri, but here in Oklahoma Dr. Pepper can be found along with Pepsi or Coke.

I also like Coke memorabilia better.

But would a soft drink stop me from coming to Silver Dollar City - no. Would it make me rethink my drink purchase decisions - yes. If Pepsi products are served, you will find me drinking more "free" water or another drink option.

^ yeah, I'm no expert on the daily operations of the park and the logistics that are required to make it operate. I was just impressed with the overall size of land that could be available for development (if you weren't limited by operations and parking).

Looking at this aerial photo....there is plenty of room in that area for Silver Dollar City to build what ever they wanted. You could relocate the employee parking and build a massive roller coaster in that area. They could even build a loop into the G.E. and expand the G.E. to include several more rides.

1st time post here....found the site after I learned about Jim Owen's Float Trip from Swoosh.

Anyhow. I have a family of 5. We buy season passes every year to SDC and we live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I have been to Worlds of Fun once back in 1989. I tried to get my family (Kids 16, 14, 6) to go this year, but they are not excited about going...why I don't know.

The reason we like going to Branson is because of all there is to do, in a relatively small geographical area. There are nice hotels, golf courses, shopping, lakes, fishing, Silver Dollar City, etc. When you got to Branson, you feel like you have gone somewhere special, not just another city (as you do when you go to Kansas City, Dallas, or St. Louis). We will continue to buy season passes no matter what the new attraction is for 2011.

Going this last weekend, the place was packed, but the ride lines were short and they were not even running to full capacity. So that shows that Silver Dollar City is much more than just a ride park, and that the majority of people that go, do not go for the rides.

I know what I want the park to build (GCI Wooden coaster), but that might not be what will benefit the park the most. I would also like to see them bring back the carousel and the balloon ride for me and my youngest to enjoy together. We’ve missed those the past two years. As far as a playground goes, I would hope they would just finish out the Old Tom Sawyers landing area, it seems kind of weird walking through that area now.

Looking forward to whatever 2011 brings us, even if it is just another place to shop and eat some great food.
