Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2015 Project
« on: May 30, 2014, 10:37:12 AM »
Swoosh, when I was there back in March, they had some "Bobcat" style equipment doing work/clearing around the Water toboggan tower, and the little building located in the woods just north of the water toboggan tower.

This work was taking place at the same time that the other clearing around GG was taking place, so I just assumed it was also for the new area. But since that time, it doesn't seem like any additional work or clearing has occurred in the tower area.

Do you think that work that was being done by the tower was just routine maintenance of the area, or do you think a new ride will wrap all the way back to that location?

I heard a news story about their recent 24 hour event at Disneyland......that had an attendance over 80,000 guest.

And a normal day at Disneyland saw attendance between 40,000 to 75,000 people per day. Heck on Disney's slow day, that is still twice as many as SDC sees on a great day.

Those are just crazy numbers, I'm really surprised that those parks work as well as they do with that many people through the gates each day.

Here's a story regarding Chance rides, but most of the video of the rides are from rides located in Frontier City. This is a pretty cool story and video of the Company.

Branson Talk / Re: Red Roof Mall......!!
« on: May 12, 2014, 09:27:22 AM »
We are coming July 14th through 19th for USSSA Softball World Series in Branson. The length of this tournament requires us to book six nights of hotel rooms for our team, plus there is a special night at SDC for all the teams, and many more opportunities for the girls and families to do events in Branson. White Water of all the "big" attractions looks to be a definite stop because they are open until 10:00 for several nights we are in town. We are also looking at doing a couple of shows. But this is a week long event, they stagger games and purposely schedule "Branson" events for the tournament.

Weekend tournaments are much more crazy. I've done baseball and softball, and if you are in the winner's bracket, you have a little bit more down time than you do if you are on the loser side (of course when you knocked out of the bracket you have a lot of free time then). What I really like about this concept is the idea that there would be restaurants,  hotel rooms (dorms), shops, etc... right there at the fields. It would be really nice when you have the two hour breaks to be able to go to your room and cool off and relax between games. Hopefully they don't forget the little brother and sister.....ball parks make a ton of money off those guys. Also if White Water would do a "tournament pass" that would allow a multiple day admission to the park for the teams......I could see them selling a bunch of those.

In case anyone didn't see the facebook posting today, the new ride is a set of flyers. Not a bad addition, especially since we weren't expecting anything. This is in addition to yet another round of maintenance and re-hab throughout the park. It's enough to convince me to get out there again sometime this year to check it out.

One marquee, re-rideable attraction and this park will be solid. I wish they would tear out the wildcat and replace it with a GCII.

So agree with the GCI comment considering the work they are doing with smaller parks like Fun Spot in Orlando and the planned coaster at Panama City Beach.

I would love to see GCII work on the Wildcat to actually make it a fun coaster, it used to have a nice return trip with tunnels and double ups and downs......but was neutered horribly sometime in late 90's. Make this into a fun "family" ride.

Then I too would love to see a new GCII coaster (like American Thunder) be built where the go carts, maintenance, and sand volley ball pits are located.

An hour and a half wait on a giant, hot staircase for a seven second ride.

For me....the scariest part of that ride, would be the staircase.

Here's today's hint: A new ride is flying into the park which required Frontier City to move a road.

9. Aliens are real
10. Santa Claus is not real

What whoa??? This completely blows my mind!!! Are you sure about these things?? Where does Bigfoot fall in this list? Please don't say he's not real either...all those people on that show can't be liars could they?

I didn't think you'd spill anything, but I was hoping maybe you'd say at least 7 of those 8 were spot on :-)

Swoosh, since you know the most about the new area.....but really can't tell, could you help us shuffle through the internet rumors? Maybe with a hot or cold kind of response....or maybe a "you got ?? of the 8 correct".

These are the things I've been hearing from Citizens and around the net:
1. Geyser Gulch will close in August and will be raised for a complete new play structure.
2. The train tracks will be rerouted.
3. This will be a complete new area, not just one ride.
4. A B&M wing rider is coming to the park.
5. The employee parking lot will also be utilized for the area.
6. GG will not be removed, it will just be renovated to be used for new area.
7. A new dark ride will be part of the experience.
8. The shot tower from CC will be utilized in new area.

Are there any other rumors floating around that are not included in this list?

Move it to White Water...several water parks have that kind of ride as part of their ride selections.

Branson Talk / Re: Report show that The Landing is a success..
« on: March 26, 2014, 03:49:23 PM »
We go to the landing, but I absolutely hate the parking. We always try the free lot on the south side, but ultimately end up in the paid lots on the north. The last time we went, I didn't think we would ever get to leave the place because the "toll reader" was having problems reading credit cards....and it wasn't just mine either, all the people that were ahead of me were having the same problem.

I like the restaurants down there, but won't go to the Mexican place again....high prices, bad service. The shops I can get at home, so that part isn't a huge draw for us.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Season Passes
« on: March 26, 2014, 01:45:11 PM »
Yeah, once the park opens for the season the price of a Season Pass will stay steady.

You can really take advantage of this offer between July 19th through August 3rd, when the park is open until 10:00pm or later.
cowboy, I seem to remember it changing to "after 7" or something like that during MM. Not 100% sure though.

Now that you mention it......I thought they had some kind of restriction like that too, but there is no mention of it on this year's offer.

"Restrictions: Offer valid through October 25, 2014. Valid on paid admissions only. Complimentary and Free Guest Vouchers are not eligible. If park is closed, second day must be used on the next available operating day"

Yes, the arrive after 3:00 next day fee promotion is good through October. http://www.silverdollarcity.com/offers/After-3pm-Next-Day-Free.aspx

There are other offers as well, such as the $5.00 with a Coke can.
http://www.silverdollarcity.com/offers.aspx

My parents would always use the after 3:00 next day free. We would arrive right at 3:00, and stay until the evening show was complete, then come back the next day at opening and go all day.

You can really take advantage of this offer between July 19th through August 3rd, when the park is open until 10:00pm or later.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2014 Trip Reviews
« on: March 21, 2014, 12:40:31 PM »
Just a quick trip review.

Went on Wednesday, March 19th. It was cold in the morning but once the sun broke through the clouds it turned into a real nice day. Saw a lot of Red White and Blue, some of it was done nicely, but the flags on the "heart attack" hill just seemed out of place, or done wrong (looked very temporary). Only other "complaint" is the banner flags that are on the light poles along the entrance roadway...they look more like they represent France or something than USA. But overall the theme is carried throughout very well.

Too many shops closed (why is the candle shop closed?), but we'll be back later in the year to catch up on all that. Also closed (that I didn't expect) was Grandfather's Mansion.

Food was great, and I was able to get the kids to Molly's before the park opened and we sat at the trick table - It was a blast. I'm so glad that it worked out for them to be able to experience that unique attraction at the park. Only complaint regarding food was the giant cookie was "hard" and crumbled. I like my cookies to be soft, so I was just a little disappointed.

Rides.......there were no lines for the American Plunge, River Battle or the Lost River, they were open, but at 37 degrees, no one was riding (I did see some brave folks later in the day when temperatures actually made it into the 50's). Most everything else was open (swinging ship was closed) and lines were short with the exception of Powder Keg, that line was completely full and extending beyond the entrance. I don't know if the ride wasn't being ran to capacity....or just that many people wanted to ride. Wildfire was a two train wait, and Outlaw Run was a 15 minute wait.

Outlaw Run dispatch is slow. There are times when it seems like there is excessive waiting and then someone says "go" and they start to check restraints, etc. I don't know the park policies, but if this is for our safety then I'm all for it. I do not consider myself "fat" or "thin" pretty average but I did have to adjust myself a little for the restraint to be acceptable....I also saw quite a few people having to leave the station without getting to ride. No rhyme or reason though, some big people were definitely riding, then I would say some "stocky" people where being sent off the ride. I guess it has a lot to do with body type than fat? The seat belts are a non issue regarding affecting the ride, the ride operator just said they have to be buckled and do not have to be tight. Just as long as they are across your body and latched together is all they were requiring on Wednesday. The ride was even better this year than I remember, this thing is the best coaster I have ever experienced.

The park was clean, looked great, even the Kettle Corn shop looked great. The temporary hammer game does not look permanent, and in it's location isn't as bad as I thought - but if they are going to keep it, it would work much better as part of the exposition than the river front.

Construction was going full blast, and was loud - concrete was being broken, trees cut, trees mulched, lots of heavy equipment in there too. Can't wait to see how this progresses through the year.

Overall, we had a great time as usual, looking forward to the park being fully open.
