General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2013 Trip Reviews...
« on: October 16, 2013, 03:54:43 PM »
The problem is that the history that is missed by not spending enough time inside.  I like to spend time showing my children the mural inside and educating them about the ride.  They are not scared of the ride because they understand the history.  Now, we get only a moment before we are whisked away on the ride.  On FM there is no confusion about where to sit, so it's a completely different situation.  I don't know if they just don't want that many people in the loading room or what.

Couldn't agree more.  I wish fith was the way it used to be.  I was saddened by it this year because I couldn't check out all the cool stuff on the wall.  I'll always remember looking at the framed "wanted" photos of the baldknobbers on the wall and being freaked out!  awesome stuff

I proposed this past June on our family boat in the middle of Table Rock Lake at Sunset.  It went well  ;D. There are so many possibilities at SDC and in Branson overall.  I agree you got to get her talking about what she likes and her memories and then if you have questions about something she says ask us on the forum and we can explain it.

Well I guess it is a National Historic Landmark, so the Cabin and area will always be preserved, right?  At least it can't go anywhere.  I just wonder about the tours, shops, lights, chuckwagon, etc.

We always look for it too.  I believe it is still there.  There is just a lot of overgrowth.  I'll hike on down there next summer and have a look see.  ;D

This is terrible news.  :(  Sadly, this is just the beginning.  I don't see SOTH staying open at all for very long unless someone steps in and buys it.  We have made it a family effort to visit SOTH every year and have taken the tour many times.  It is my favorite novel of all time.  I have only seen the show twice, however, and the last time was probably 10 or 15 years ago.  My father never wanted to go to the show.  I was planning on taking my wife to be next year after she read the novel, as I have been wanting to go again.  Now I have to face the harsh realization that I won't get to see it again.

Sadly, I see SOTH going the way of Mutton Hollow.  I think Inspiration Tower will stay open with the zipline, but the rest of the park will go under.  Hopefully the State will step in and name it a State Park, or someone like SDC will buy it, but I'm not going to hold my breath.  Funny that the novel speaks about the mad, senseless rush of the world.  That same rush is leading to decreased attendance at this gem of a park.

I would be sad to see them go.  Last visit the riverfront was overflowing when they were playing an early afternoon show.

I hate to hear that the foods are not in the hall.  No Butter Cow either?  what is this park coming too?
The biggest shocker is the Lye soap is going away...........that is the last to fall,  I consider this the 7th sign.......   I think we are going to end up with a Dollywood 2.  Its a dumbed down SDC that has a small section in the middle of the park that used to "be" SDC TN, but the crafts are mostly done and gone, shops that are open filled with generic stuff.   That's the direction our ship is headed in. Dollywood attracts the east coast crowd and we are middle America.  Dollywood is not an escape from reality, SDC trys its best to be.  I don't know that SDC can successfully make that change for the long term.

Well said.

makes you wonder if they will ever try to do anything in that area for more foot traffic or just leave it as is and make it a slower area for the employees?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: OUTLAW RUN---New Restraints
« on: August 12, 2013, 09:50:01 AM »
Well I think it is the lenght of your legs, and the size of your thighs that basically determine whether or not you ride OR now.

I did fit in the restraints with room to spare. I am about 5-10 with a 38"-40" waist. However my thighs are not very big around, and my legs are not real long.  A lady sat in the test seat before me. She was shorter. Probably weighed about what I weigh. Her legs was not long either, but her thighs were real big around. She did NOT get the green light.

It really is hard to determine who will/wont fit. Just go up and sit in the test seat.

Having rode it now. I certainly understand WHY the new regulations.  I agree with others now. I "believe" seat belts would eliminate any future problems. Either full belts around the waist, OR (like "Freeze" at SFSL) just a seat belt (per say) attched to the restraint (lap bar) itself. That would prevent the bar from raising up at all.

At this point I would be surprised if they didn't make the necessary changes for next year.  Has to be a lot of grumbling, not only from those who "can't" ride, but also those who can and get bruised up.  This is a great ride and I wouldn't think adding seat belts, etc, would be too difficult.  Of course, though, what do I know about roller coasters?

They become available at the start of An Old Time Christmas...

Fixed it for ya.
This is a brand new ---- newbie. This was his first post. He was simply asking a question. He deserved a simple HONOST answer. If this person knew when the passes were "normally" available, he would not have asked when they "normally" become available. Your answer (Swoosh) was fine until the last line. Your "LIKE NORMAL" line was unneccesary and completely "un called for".   Swoosh, you are a good guy, with lots of knowledge. We all appreciate your knowledge. There are ways to display your knowledge, without talking down to folks (or making them feel stupid & uninportant).

Dude. Please dont take this to heart. Im just trying to help you gain knowledge and strenght in other areas of your life. I still just know you are a great person. I really would like to get to know you. I appreciate your posts on here. You are almost always accurate, and generally caring.

Also thought it was very uncalled for.  Glad you said something.  We have to stand up to this rude dialog...there's no place for it on a site such as this one.

 ;D

Swoosh- Im having a bad day, so guess what?
Not everybody gets paid to go places and try different parks on their family vacation either. Some people cant always plan their trip weeks (or months) in advance either. Sometimes things happen in daily life that takes money that would normally be spent on vacations also.

What Im trying to say is, most people over the age of about 18 realize that "people have zero control over anything" even though everyone wants to think they can control everything. We didnt even get to pick what we would be on earth (meaning person or animal, male or female, ETC) We dont control weather, nor do we control unforseen circumstances.

Oh yeah one piece of advice NEVER say NEVER!!!!  You just might find yourself on a family vacation during (your admitted) taboo time.

The accents are needed for character development.  I found that the first time I read the book it was difficult, but as you read it more it becomes easy to read and makes the story more interesting and authentic.

That's good to hear.  We have not seen him in quite some time.  We must visit during the wrong time of year.  Mom always mentions it when we walk by the spot.
