Yep! nice catch Ozarks gal..  I saw that, interesting idea..

I also noticed that the "made in the USA show" on the showboat will be done next year...

I am glad, because their show with the "showmen" & the "aerial violinist" is not worth seeing... (IMHO)....

however I do like the shows with the pianist, mike blick, showgirls and Dean church..  that is a great show!

I am surprised they are changing already, with these show, since they are only 3 years old.. But I think they need to keep a variety on the boat.... (todd oliver was there for 10 years! TOO Long)

TEN YEARS?  Was it really that long?  We saw him twice and enjoyed it but saw he was back so avoided it.  Also saw another show twice, was a patriotic dancing thing.  I'm surprised they don't mix it up more. But perhaps it is difficult to do that and contracting probably isn't easy.

Your immediate battle plan should be as follows:
1. Get to the park EARLY (as in before rope drop)
2. Go to the rope on the path closest to ThuNderaTion
3. Go immediately to It's A Wonderful Life and get in line for first show

Dickens' last show of the day will be the lightest attended.
Watch the 2nd parade - go ride during the 1st parade.
The later shows of Living Nativity will be lightly attended.
You can skip Frosty - no really, skip Frosty
The Saloon Show is fun, but if you are short on time, it can be skipped.

Sweet, thanks!  I like having battle plans!  I didn't even know there was a frosty show.  Doesn't really sound appealing anyway.  Which plays are in which houses?  I guess I can always find out when I get there but I'm just curious I suppose.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / OTC Shows
« on: November 05, 2013, 09:18:54 PM »
Hey all.  I hope to make my first trip for OTC this year.  I'm excited for the different shows there, especially It's a Wonderful Life. I'm also hoping that the Saloon Show has the Christmas theme back again this year? Wanted to know what others' thoughts were on the different shows and which shows you all think are the best?
Also, do the shows fill up quicker than they do during the summer months due to colder weather?

I am happy to publish our numbers for the last few years since we started the discount! Sandune is right, we do increase every year which is awesome! It's funny, when first started corporate was not aware of how the numbers would grow, now they love this group!  ;D

2011 - 277 Rooms booked
2012 - 322 Rooms booked
2013 - 338 to date (still have month to go!)

Also, we have received more calls this year about how they have found this site, just signed in and then in-turn making reservations! We do make it clear, you have to be a member of this site to get the discount. If you are not a member and just looking well then when you join, you can have the discount!. Hopefully this has contributed to part of the growing members on this site? Again I cannot say thank you enough for all of your support!  ;D

I joined the site not knowing about Homestay or the special rate, and am glad I found out about it!  My fiance and I are planning on trying to get reservations there for the weekend before Thanksgiving, unless my football team makes the state championship.  So either way it should be a good weekend  ;D  If we can't come this time I'm sure we will stay there during some other trip, so this site is a good partner for Homestay.  All the good reviews make the decision easy, too!

Seems like it would be easy enough to pull some "volunteers" from Wilson's Creek or Pea Ridge.  And bring back an updated Civil War show in the Opera House!

This.  Definitely this.  Civil War needs some exposure at SDC.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: This attraction MUST GO!
« on: October 30, 2013, 09:28:28 AM »
NO attraction should go.  But I agree with all saying that the American Plunge needs some love.  I have no idea why they would not keep this ride updated or give it a major facelift.  It gets a lot of visitors and could get many, many more.  I rode this past summer with my nephew and niece and it was almost depressing compared to what it used to be.  I almost felt sorry for them that they could not experience the Plunge the way it used to be.

That being said, don't necessarily CHANGE the AP.  It should always, always be called the American Plunge.  It should stay in the same theme.  It just needs to be updated...all the water effects, characters along the way.  You used to really get a sense that these groups tried to take the plunge and failed.  Now it's just random stuff that doesn't work during the (way too short) float trip part of the ride.

Update the Plunge!  Keep all the rides!  Give them some love!  The money is there, and so are the riders.

Branson Talk / Re: Shepherd of the Hills Play Closing
« on: October 19, 2013, 09:32:32 AM »
It honestly gives me chills that this is the last play.  I can't imagine what it would feel like to be acting in the final production tonight.  It must be sad, but also in a way it must be an honor.  You are out there representing all those who have played your part before you.  Almost eery, in a sense.  Let's hope they have a great one.  Sad I can't be there, but I would probably feel very down afterward if I was there.   :'(

Please God, help Branson save the things that made it great!

The last time, I carried my daughter through the distance of the cave.  It must have been four or five years ago.  Now, I would have to carry my son, and he's a chunk.  I want to take the lantern tour.

I, too, would like to to the lantern tour.  Seems like we never stay in the park quite that long because we leave to go for a boat ride.  Who has done the lantern tour?  Is it worth it?  I'm guessing it is...

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: SDC Food Poll Question
« on: October 19, 2013, 09:26:19 AM »
I put this question out there kinda hoping that the PTB would actually pay attention.  For the stuff that tastes really good the portion size is going your way down and the price is going way up. the buffets make more sense but they're not nearly as good as Golden Corral. So my vote goes for portion size because there's still some really good food out there.

No offense, and you are entitled to your opinion, but I must stand up for our buffets at SDC.  Golden Corral is the most awful tasting food at any restaurant I've had in my life.  SDC buffets are not nearly that bad.  Not as much selection maybe, but the taste is better.
I will agree that the food at the buffets could use some improvements, but I'm not ready to go that far.

Just curious. When was the last time you did the cave tour? We did it last year. Of course, we have only been to SDC one time this year. I know you have heard me say that the cave gets no respect, & i understand why. I just wish there was more mention to it in commercials & adds when ever you see stuff about SDC. I always say that its the only amusement park that has a cave. Is there any other parks out there that have one?

Long live the Cave!! ;D

We do the cave every year and this past June was the most recent.  It was also the worst because of some bratty teenagers who had zero respect for the cave and the guide.  The guide wasn't great either but I think it was because the crowd was so awful, including one old man who kept asking for beer.  It wasn't funny, believe me.
Anyway, I agree this is very underrated and does not get enough respect.  It really is an amazing cave and if it were by itself it would probably cost 10-20 bucks per ticket to go down there, so it is a really good deal to get in with park admission.  A good way to "cool off" and have some adventure!  Never gets old!

Always eat there at least once a day.  Even after you adjusted the question, I still couldn't answer.  I'll click on portion size!
