General Silver Dollar City Talk / Silver Dollar City by yourself
« on: April 27, 2023, 04:13:58 PM »
Just curious- how many of you gone to Silver Dollar City by yourself?  I only did it once.   I went to the Western Writers of America Convention is Springfield MO in June of 2007.  The last day of the Convention was Saturday so on the way back home to central Arkansas I stopped and went to SDC on Sunday on my own.  The positive side was that I could do what I wanted on my own schedule.  The negative was when I went to eat at the Wagon Wheel I got up to get some water during my meal and when I got back they had bussed my table LOL.  I had to tell the cashier what happened and got another burger and fries.  Anyone else have any interesting stories when you visited by yourselves?

LOL I couldn't agree more.  My wife and I just had this conversation last week.  I know these people can work a computer because they're on Facebook.  I'm betting they can type in a search engine rectangle too.

^ Great stuff Smokey!  One of my favorite things in the ride is the Andy's Wagon Works sign that pays homage to the "founder of the feast" Andy Miller.  Such a genius with things like FITH, the Flooded Mine, and other "Andyisms" around the park.

I’m pretty certain I’ve asked this before, but has there been any mention of bringing back the pork rind stand?

Won't those come back with the rebuilt Fried Flossie's stand?

Welcome to the site, Smokey!  I look forward to hearing your stories.  I've been riding FITH since 1974.

If they're going to replace Thunderation I would love to see it replaced with something akin to Disney's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad - with bigger drops of course.  That was my favorite ride there. https://disneyland.disney.go.com/attractions/disneyland/big-thunder-mountain-railroad/

^ Maybe "theme" at it's barest minimum but that's still the theme.  Hopefully the PTB still recognize that.

If they do replace Thunderation it would need to be with another mine train.  It's too perfect a fit for the park seeing as how SDC is based on an 1880s Ozarks mining village.

It's also the 30th anniversary of Thunderation.  Hopefully it will get the TLC it's been needing for a while!  Less bumpy please.

I would get as many rides in as you can while you still can.

So is that a hint that Thunderation 2.0 is on the board?  :)

^  They know from the video they showed during Monday's announcement (not to mention the long ride wait times!) that a lot of visitors are in love with this ride.  I honestly can't think that they would not add the iconic things (Red Flanders, the oncoming train, Kinney bridge, etc.) to the new ride.  Same with the Flooded Mine.

^ ^^Though the history and date I posted are true that was kind of tongue-in-cheek.  I just found it interesting since Jesse James, Cole Younger and the bunch were Missouri boys.

The James/Younger gang committed their first bank robbery on February 13th, 1866 in Liberty Missouri.  Could the date have something to do with that?  And if not then at least I threw in some Missouri History.  You're welcome History Buff!   :)
