General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: The Cave
« on: October 19, 2013, 09:12:14 PM »
I haven't been in the cave since 2005. Shameful, I know! :-\

The cave is great, but for whatever reason, I just haven't gone back down since then.

Branson Talk / Re: Shepherd of the Hills Play Closing

I found on Facebook that the closing of the Shepherd of the Hills has made national news at the Wall Street Journal. It's quite an interesting read!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2013 Trip Reviews...

I have not had a chance to see / notice the new queue line yet. What happens if a lot of people want to ride on a rainy day? Are folks just going to get wet waiting outside, or can the lines be altered?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: SDC Food Poll Question
« on: October 18, 2013, 09:50:16 AM »
Silver Dollar City suffers from Theme Park Syndrome. The prices are a bit high, the portions are a bit small, and the taste of the food is simply on par. Silver Dollar City is a theme park first, and foremost. Their "restaurant" services would be hard pressed to match any actual restaurants.

With that being said, since I already know what to expect, I am not as easily disappointed. If I had to chose one criteria, it would of course be the price. However, while inside the park, Silver Dollar City is the monopoly. You either pay the price, or you go hungry. Unless of course you bring your own food.

I think where Silver Dollar City really shines is the "snack" foods such as the funnel cake, ice cream, skillets, and so on.  :)

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: SDC Post Office
« on: October 12, 2013, 02:17:05 PM »
I wonder how many casual Silver Dollar City visitors even know there is a working Post Office there? It might be one of those original attractions that seems to be pushed off to the side. If it does close, I am sure it is probably money related like most things, or as mentioned the government shutdown.

Dollywood Discussion / Re: Dollywood 2014 Project
« on: October 12, 2013, 10:53:25 AM »
Interesting! I watched the video, and I kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting for something spectacular to happen since the ride seemed rather tame overall. Then of course it had that twist ending. Personally, I am not a fan of riding anything backwards. Which is why I was glad when ThuNderaTion finally had all of its cars turned around, and facing forward.

I'm sort of eh, about the ride. I bet it will be a good one, and Dollywood could use a good "family" coaster, but, eh.  :)

Interesting mini review biscuitcreek!  :)

According to Terry Sander's Facebook post, it was standing room only at the play on Friday night.

Even if it was just a misunderstanding, it still proves our dedication, passion, and willingness to fight for the small things that make Silver Dollar City more than just a theme park. :)

I am shameful Silver Dollar City fan as I only go once a year - or so the trend has been. I bought a season pass in 2010, and 2011, and only went once. Granted it was for three days in a row each visit. Last year, and this year I am using a hotel / two day ticket combination deal. Times are tough, and it's just hard to break free, and head that way more often.

As for next year, who knows? I may surprise myself. :)

couldn't agree more larsonsix.  All the music shows flood the market with ads and promotions and their billboards line the highway to Branson, but you can count on one hand how many SOTH billboards or promotional materials you see.  It's almost like they just sat there on the hill and had that "we started it all" attitude and expected the people to come.  Sadly enough, they didn't show up!

It is interesting. Most people either know about Shepherd of the Hills, or they don't. If I knew nothing about Branson history, I am sure I would just simply pass by, and think "eh, well that's a nice observation tower," and never know about the actual play there.

I have yet to receive a response, but I hope that's true!

Now that I think about it, when I went during Old Time Christmas last year, the soap making was shutdown, but the booth was still open to sell what they had recently made.

Hopefully, the soap will continue! Otherwise, there will be some really smelly people around here. :P

Keeping things fresh is the key. For example, Silver Dollar City seems to add, and / or change something every single year.

However, it is a bit more complicated than that. How do you mix things up while still staying true to your roots? How do you change up a play that is based off a book? How do you keep things fresh, and interesting when you are telling the same story? How do you allow, or refuse to allow technology to play a role in the production?

Plus, there are literally dozens of new, and innovative shows just down the road that feature air conditioned buildings, and other comfort amenities. Shepherd of the Hills is certainly a hard sell.

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2014 Project

Makes me wonder if the developments, or renovations will finally include the Waterboggan structure. Perhaps, it simply cost more money to tear it down, than to simply keep it there.

It better be a misprint! I am going to Silver Dollar City in November, and I have yet to ride Outlaw Run! :-X :)
