Things are cooking in NW Arkansas. Really, folks...when you plan that Branson vacation, you need to plan a few more days, then make a side trip down this way. Many, many things to see and do.

Regarding the employment figures...around 2000 employed at SDC is about right. So if the landing has just under that figure, that's pretty good for a mall.
-
Although I still miss "The Branson I Grew Up With," the landing has been a relatively good addition, but I don't like the long walk from the parking lots to each end of the mall area. I have access to about the same shops here in NW Arkansas, so going to the landing is not that big of a deal for me, even though Bass Pro and some of the restaurants like Joe's Crab Shack are something I cannot get down home.

The reason they moved away from the projectors that put faces on some of the dummies is because the humidity always caused the electronics to break down. I remember maintenance guys constantly repairing projectors, replacing tapes, and so on...of course, computers would not fare well in the environment, either, they would need to place computers in a heated/air conditioned space. No matter what electronic technology used, the humidity creates havoc! Ha!

Thanks, all, for your "diving bell" nods. I really do wish they'd bring it back with the modern technology. The old attraction holds a special place in my heart and memories. It would be great if a new generation of park guests could get a taste of something that what once was...

Looks to me to be a concept proposal only, which could be a massive revamping of the lake area/back end of the park, or a proposal for the Grand Exposition. Other than those two GUESSES only, I'd have no idea. Maybe a revamped Celebration City? Maybe Swoosh can chime in on this one.

Parts of SW Missouri and NW Arkansas got freezing rain, sleet, snow, and rain today. I thought I was going to be stuck at home, but much of the precipitation on the roads has turned to water...hoping the temperature overnight does not fall below freezing, because it will mess up commute time to work Monday. How did things go in Stone County at SDC today? Somebody post snow pictures, please!

A member of this site has a friend that works on park, and that friend regularly gives the numbers to our member. The workers on the park are given a projected attendance list, which helps them plan ahead so they have enough staff on duty, and due to weather and other things that happen, that figure changes, of course. At some point in the day, the PTB let supervisors and team leaders know what the actual attendance is, again, primarily for staffing purposes.

For the first time in three years, I could not be at SDC on opening day. A few photos have been posted already, but please, post more! Really would like to see how spruced up things are in red, white and blue. Also any shop changes and so forth. Thanks, all. Glad the new season is upon us.
