Other Parks / Photo Trip Report: Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America

Nickelodeon Universe at MOA - June 21
Derrijk and I decided to take a trip up I-35 to check out the parks in the Twin Cities. After spending most of the day at Valleyfair, we went over to Mall of America to check out the NEW park in the middle of the mall - Nickelodeon Universe. To say that Sponge Bob is an awesome coaster is an understatement... on to the PTR!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Kids Fest at Silver Dollar City

Some Comments on KidsFest this Year:
-- There seems to be a much larger push this year to get parents to buy things for their kids. There are two huge "stores" where the whole point is to BUY BUY BUY. Then on the square they have a "kids crafts" area where the kids for $2.00 can make things that you would make at Vacation Bible School.
-- The magic show was very good, but it seemed to just end
-- The Circus on Ice was once again very bad. They have one section of the show which relies on strobe lights almost the entire time. I don't know about others, but I can handle strobes for a little bit, but then they just get annoying, and that was the case here.
-- There really wasn't that much for the older generations to do during this festival. Once again this is my beef with Kids Fest as it has been in the past. This Festival goes on way too long and alienates a good portion of those who visit the park. There was a show a couple years ago that was produced by Mutal of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. That show could be enjoyed by all audiences, why wasn't it brought back?
-- Is it time for Southern Gospel Picnic yet? At least there are grown up shows then.

DAY 1: HOLIDAY WORLD / SPLASHIN' SAFARI
Day One of our trip took us from our home state of Missouri to the crop lands of South Indiana. Derrijk had never been here before, so it was a lot of fun seeing how he reacted to the awesome waterpark and the Holiwoodies. Not surprising, he didn't like Voyage either. I guess it must be a "MiG Crew" thing to hate on the Gravity Group.
On to the PTR!!!

We made it down to SDC for their Bluegrass and BBQ Festival last weekend. While we did not really do the "bluegrass" portion of the festival, we sure did enjoy the BBQ part.

Wild Adventure's Waterpark Splash Island has announced their new 2009 attraction will be Kalani Towers, which will be an exact copy of the one put into White Water last season

Another weekend, another park. Silver Dollar City was rather chilly, just like Worlds of Fun was last weekend. Luckily, a lot of the attractions at SDC are indoors, including some really good shows that are going on for World Fest.
