Sadly, we must also add the recently-rejected character, "Ada Mae."  The beloved, drooling, crazed-eye character succombed to a rapidly spreading illness known as politicus correctus

They have headset mics that are less obtrusive and really blend in well with the face of the speaker. Maybe they could get some of those.  I wonder how the new FCC laws regarding the 700mhz frequency (the frequency which most wireless mics operate over) impacts them?

Actually the mark-up on fountain soft-drinks is ridiculous. Including paper cup, plastic lid and straw, each 12oz soda costs the company about 15 cents. And I'm sure Holiday World has some kind of marketing deal with Pepsi, so it may even be less than that.  I would love to see SDC adopt this approach, though I know they would loose a lot of revenue (-1.35 on each 1.50 refill). But how could anybody complain about food prices when they are getting free drinks!?!

Holiday World is a fun park to visit. Been there two or three times. It is family owned so it is not overly commercialized.  HW is not as well themed as SDC, but it easily comes in 2nd place as a "family values" type theme park. Plus the free soft drinks and sunscreen is a welcome perk. It would be cool if SDC would use that promotion as well.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Midnight Madness park music
« on: August 08, 2010, 05:35:30 PM »
Has there ever been an official explanation for the contemporary music during MM?  And why are they allowing contemporary music to be played during regular hours at PK?

I live 1 hr from SixFlags (STL) and 5 hours from SDC.  I would give just about anything for it to be the other way around, and so would my kids (ages 3-14) for that matter! Six Flags (STL) has more rides but the atmosphere is blech. What makes SDC special IMHO is its spirit and that spirit is altered when The Village People and Lady GaGa are coming through the loudspeakers!

I feel your pain Swoosh.
When it's Deer Season...you shoot deer.
When it's Duck Season...you shoot duck.
When it's Rabbit Season...you shoot rabbits.
But whe it's Tourist Season...How come we can't shoot them? ;D

(I saw this quote somewhere recently. But I cannot for the life of me remember where.  If it was someone on this site, my apologies, please take credit now).

They do have a 50th anniversary candle.  It's a special sent they developed just for the 50th.  It comes in a glass cup with the 50th logo etched on it. It also comes with a certificate of authenticity.  They have some that are quite reasonably priced. Though I can't remember the price, I know they weren't too expensive because I bought one for my wife! :)

How does the shuttle service from the campground to SDC work?  Do they have their own access road or do they have to go up and around on 76 like the rest of us?

Well, I've got 5 kids and I'm at the point were I have to rent two hotel rooms or get a kitchenette.  It gets costly. A "quick" trip to SDC costs me $300.00 (not including tickets, we have Season Passes) and the majority of that amount is lodging.  We have a tent, and I thought for our next trip (in the Fall) we might try camping. Two nights camping would save me about $150.00 in hotel room costs.

Bon Jovi (multiple times)
Van Halen (Sammy Hagar)
Cinderella
Steve Vai
Alice in Chains
Extreme
Alabama
Oak Ridge Boys
Barbara Mandrell
Oldies show (featuring Chubby Checker, Brenda Lee, Jerry Lee Lewis)
Petra (multiple times)
Whiteheart
Stryper
Rez Band
Skillet
Bride
Whitecross

Back in the 70's
The Osmonds
Bay City Rollers
Jackson 5

Most Memorable Concert: Rez Band--they played in a High School gym, but had tons of pyro (this was before we knew it was dangerous)

Biggest disappointment:  Jerry Lee Lewis didn't show up.

And though I never got to see them in concert, I got to meet Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana.  Shaking their hands was like meeting rock-n-roll royalty!
