Anyone have pictures of what they’ve been doing there?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Citizen injured
« on: July 21, 2022, 07:26:20 AM »
Not much information at all but a citizen was injured yesterday at SDC.

Spokesperson said no guests were involved in the accident.

Hopefully they are doing okay and will recover soon.

Grabbed a couple of pics of the project between the pumpkin trail and fire spotter ballon’s.

First pic was from the train, a little path down to it. I’m assuming just from access during construction.
Second pic is from right next to the coke stand.

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2023 Project(s) and Park Developments
« on: June 18, 2022, 07:14:47 AM »
There’s barely enough room for a queue let alone a gift shop and why would they take photos on a coaster that will be mainly in the dark.  Seriously?

$$$$$$ on ride photos are easy money. They wouldn’t be the first place to have photos on a dark ride. I’m not saying that it will happen, just trying to point out that is not as unreasonable as you seem to think.

Random Talk / Re: Your Travels Thread (2022)
« on: June 09, 2022, 12:41:53 PM »
Let's get started on 2022 (now that we're almost halfway through the year).  Disney selected me as one of 50 teachers in the nation for their 50 Teachers Celebration.  The first link below is a list of all the things I encountered on my four-day journey, complete with walking down Main Street USA with no tourists, grand marshalling the fantasy parade in Magic Kingdom, riding Guardians of the Galaxy:  Cosmic Rewind on opening day after hours with the Imagineer who designed the attraction, and more.

Other links will be activated when I post them.  Another destination in on deck for this summer, so I should have plenty to share at that time, too.

If you're inclined to care about any of this, enjoy...

50 Teachers:  Encountering the World of Disney
50 Teachers Celebration:  Destination Disney
50 Teachers Celebration:  The Grand Floridian
50 Teachers Celebration:  Registration and Swag
50 Teachers Celebration:  Time to Explore EPCOT
50 Teachers Celebration:  The Magic Kingdom
50 Teachers Celebration:  Back to the Magic
50 Teachers Celebration:  Daytime Programming
50 Teachers Celebration:  Evening Programming
50 Teachers Celebration:  Visiting the Animals
50 Teachers Celebration:  It's Hot in Hollywood
50 Teachers Celebration:  Departing Disney

Riding with an imagineer sounds like an awesome experience. Really it all does. I’m looking forward to reading more about your experience.

It’s originally British. It aired on a BBC kids station.

It’s available for streaming in the US on Hulu and possibly Netflix.

Wikipedia has some details on it.

White Water Discussion / Re: What is the deal with WW?
« on: June 01, 2022, 07:47:54 AM »
Seems like rumor mill nonsense. I’m pretty sure I saw the same post, the OP of that didn’t seem at all like a trustworthy source…. Why would they name it after Dolly? They really don’t need her name SDC is doing great on its own.

As far as closing WW to open a water park adjacent to SDC it’s possible but I can’t imagine they would close WW before the new park is ready and with no construction currently occurring, the possibility of a whole park being ready by next may is virtually zero. It could be part of a long term plan but I can’t see it happening for at least 2 years, but more likely it would be 3-5 years.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: New Metal Detectors
« on: May 02, 2022, 12:34:47 PM »
I just hope they are consistent with their procedure. Last year almost every time I went security wanted me to do something different at the check point so I never knew what to do to be ready and help speed the process along.

I also set off the detector several times and they didn’t wand me or do anything extra other then ask or my shoes have steel toes(they do). It all left me feeling like it’s just theater and not very good security.

Interesting. Was it a post visit survey or just one they emailed out to random people?

I’m assuming they would view Johnny Morris properties as one of the main competitors for a resort. I think we are all thinking that is a likely thing to be built in the next several years.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Refillable Mugs
« on: April 02, 2022, 07:52:34 AM »
I believe if you buy additional mugs at the same time the additional ones are 12.99.

Is the vip tumbler smaller? I’m pretty sure in 2020 they held the same amount of liquid. If they are different it’s probably only a couple ounces.

I was looking at SDC job openings today and noticed that they have an opening for a food service position at fried fancies.

I’m assuming from that post that they will have Flossie’s rebuilt and open this year.

Anyone seen anything else or heard recent rumors on rebuilding from the fire?

Having (what I'm assuming to be) a travelling exhibit they could easily have tour the parks is an excellent way to start out doing attractions for the parks without being too bombastic or out of place. Just curious where they're gonna be locating it...

M assuming it would be in the carousel barn or the building attached to tatter twist…. If it’s bigger than what those buildings can hold then maybe out in pumpkin plaza. I suppose red gold hall would be the other option…

Construction/Rumors / Re: Future SDC Development Speculation (Long-term)
« on: January 20, 2022, 09:06:54 AM »
Why would that make the train less enjoyable?

It’s hard for me to see them taking out FM and not adding in some type of dark ride in a boat. A dark ride in a boat is such a theme park staple. Plus, They really don’t have a lot of rides that are good for the full family(baby all they way to 99 year old) to do together.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2021 Crowds/Trip Reports
« on: December 28, 2021, 04:14:31 PM »
The park message today is a bit different than most of the recent high crowd day messages. They are straight up saying they are out of parking spaces. Not that the park is simply busy, but that they literally have no more room to park people. I've never seen them say that before. I wonder if they are still parking people behind the bank?

I understand staff shortages and get the lower park capacity but how are they running out of parking when they are at about 2/3 of the real max capacity. (My understanding is that pre-pandemic capacity was 24k-25k, current capacity is about 16k)

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Future Festivals
« on: December 23, 2021, 04:30:45 PM »
I’d like to see a worlds fair event. Something tying in to the historical world fairs.

I like the idea of a food and wine fest, but am not sold on having alcohol in the park. There already seems to be an increasing number of unkind guests in the city and I fear alchool would increase that more.
Maybe a home cooking or country cooking festival.
