Random Talk / Re: Your Travels Thread (2020)
« on: June 25, 2020, 05:49:20 PM »
I saw on a reddit post from someone who used to work at Ruby Falls that the main waterfall there is fake. He said that if it were to run naturally, there would barely be a trickle of water, so they put in a pipe in the rocks to pump water up from the bottom.

Lots of Mystic River Falls testing happening today. It was much more consistent and continual like normal operations than what we saw earlier.

Videos of rotating lift, raft in channel, approach to the drop and the drop.

Looks like they got that spinning on the elevated channel under control. Thats awesome to see!

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: Past rides at Silver Dollar City

I’d suggest starting on the park’s Wikipedia page to see the ones you’ve missed and go from there

Yeah, that's where i got the rides i listed from haha. I just didn't know if there were any more that weren't put on the wikipedia page. Figured this is the place to ask if there were missing rides on that page.

SDC Memories/ Park History / Past rides at Silver Dollar City
« on: June 19, 2020, 11:02:26 AM »
Hey guys, I am currently doing a little personal project about Silver Dollar City's history. Part of it is listing/going over all the old rides and play areas at the park that no longer exist. So far I have,

- Sam's Minin Shack
- Herman The Hermit's Tree Top House
- Jim Owen's Float Trip
- Rube Dugan's Diving Bell
- Huck Finn's Hideaway
- Tom Sawyer's Landing
- Lost River of the Ozarks
- Waterworks/Wilderness Waterboggan
- Runaway Ore Cart
- Geyser Gulch
- Splash Harbor
- Buzz Saw Falls

Is there any that you guys remember but don't see here?

Wow that is some amazing test footage. That spot where looking at the main drop head on might just end up being my new favorite spot in the park haha. Also, if what that emplyee said is true, it'll be open by the time i end up going down there :)

Is the elevator lift supposed to have a building or covering over/around it?

Branson Talk / Branson Strip 2020
« on: June 14, 2020, 10:54:03 PM »
Hey guys,

A Buddy of mine and I are planning a weekend trip to SDC in late July - Go to the park one day, and explore some of the strip the other day. We did the exact same thing last July as well. I was wondering if there were any major additions/subtractions from the strip since last July? Last year we did both mountain coasters, as well as the BigFoot Drop Tower. But is there anything new that would be worthy of trying out? Right now, the plan is to ride the Ferris Wheel and do the Heavy Metal HighRise go kart track.

I am also open to suggestions for things that may not be new, but are things I should check out while I am down there. The 3 things me and my buddy did last year are really the only things i have done on the Branson Strip aside from the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum.

Thanks guys!

The wider horse bridge looks good.

Does it still have the sound effects and that little window/building thing at the beginning of it with the sign of what different types of traveling costs?

Might be making a trip to Universal Orlando/Disney World for a few days. Thinking about mid-to-late May. Does anyone know when Orlando area schools get out? I know the parks are going to be busy no matter what really, just trying to find the least busiest times as i can.

I totally did not expect that sound haha. I feel like this is what is used in a lot of background music on reality shows

Now you're a hell of a lot closer to Phantasialand, Energylandia, Europa Park, Gardaland, etc. haha

Congrats on the job and best of luck!

Yeah I already saw some talk about the old Valley Road bridge being torn out and replaced. Not sure about anything else so I will refrain.

Ok since you mentioned it, I’ll confirm.  Yes the Tressel bridge has been removed and a new bridge that’s about 10’ wider has replaced it.  There’s still more...

Wow, 10 feet wider? That's a huge difference

Although I don't visit the park enough to notice it myself, from the talk I've noticed here it would seem like Fire in the Hole would be the next major ride to make a departure.

They keep saying that it's the tallest raft ride drop in the Western Hemisphere. Is there being another one built overseas that will be taller?

I'm not finding anything about a ride being built with a taller drop. Maybe they're saying that so the record could last longer? I really don't know.
