I really think this will be an extension of the Riverfront area.  Midtown is actually above this, on the other side of the tracks.  I never get the idea I'm in the middle of the city there, but on the back side of it.

I have to mention that after reading about the Wildfire cameras, I expected to see a lot of this at Disney World, figuring they would be at the forefront of such a money-making scheme.  I saw none of it at all.  I wonder why.

You'd have to scan my imagination - - - and I don't there are enough colors in the world for that.

I found this in the Attraction Ideas thread:

Quote
How about revamping Lost River to incorporate the raft scene from "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn"?  Lost River is right by the Landing, and if it was revamped and incorporated into the Landing it would restore some identity to the area.  If they did that other attractions and shops could be added to help Tom Sawyer's Landing regain some of it's theme.

Just had a brainstorm.  They could incorporate the Riverfront into the Landing and hold Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn plays/musicals in the Playhouse and maybe have some costumed characters (and bring back Mark Twain himself) wander the Landing and interact with guests...

Kind of prophetic, don't you think?  sdcforever, what else do you see in your crystal ball?  I would love to see the playhouse idea germinated, too.  If they were really thinking about it, the Happy Frogs could be moved to area and renamed the Jumping Frog of Calavares (sp?) County.  This ride has a small footprint and would fit with the theme while at the same time opening a small area of the Expo for a different kiddie ride.

OK, so here's a flying coaster idea:

Mild mannered school master comes to town with a secret:  he has the powers of levitation and flight, and when he's not teaching school, he catches bald knobbers and delivers them to the marshall.  A suspended coaster tells the story with a schoolhouse theme in the queue, along with museum-type displays about education history.  The coaster could be located between TGS and FitH and open up a new bypass traffic area.  It's the same kind of wild idea that brought Doc Harris to invent a new fuel called Wildfire.

I remember when the Company message was that for every tree cut down, two would take its place elsewhere.
That's the last I heard.

I'm sure (I hope) there will be enough trees left in the area to shade this ride - or are falling leaves going to be a problem?

The data is only objective up to a point.  I think the company will be subjective in its interpretation.  You know, like if the GP says it wants a super-hero-theme area, the company will reject that idea as ruining the rest of the park.

I haven't looked to see what TCM will be playing on the fourth.  That's usually the place to look.

I have to put my vote in for The Patriot.  At first, I thought it was just a movie made for the blood, but after further consideration I realized it was about a man who just wanted to be a dad, but who had to fight - it was about an ordinary man doing extraordinary things (a favorite theme of mine).  Mel did a good job with that one.

I'm not getting the pics, but it's a shame they couldn't use the bobcat after hours - kinda ruins the feel.

If we spilled the beans (and we're not the only ones), and they're really watching this site, then good.  Maybe someone will also see the things we continue to say about theming and staying true to SDC - no sideshow games, no plastic beavers, and that kind of thing.  If they want to do research of their most devout fans, then here we are.  Look no further.

Here's the best part of their announcement on the webpage (with my emphasis added):

Closed for the remainder of the year, Tom Sawyer's Landing is undergoing exciting changes in preparation for the 2009 season! The area will experience a complete overhaul, so get ready for the All-NEW Fun Family Ride coming to this location next spring.

Has anyone noticed that ABC Family's "Salute to America" is focused on a marathon of Harry Potter movies?  Isn't that strangely ironic?  To celebrate our independence from England, they're showing movies about British wizards.  It would be OK to show the movies, but to bill it as a salute to America?  Really?

Pleasure Island was Pinnochio's place of ill repute - where boys become jackasses - so this was one case of truth in advertising for Disney.  If it's going to be more "family" oriented, maybe a name change is in store.

A talking stage coach would be strange.  I could see the talking rock indian, but that would never be politically-correct enough today.  Were they interactive or just recorded messages like the RR Bucket?

Actually I was thinking about things along this line, last week, when we encountered a couple of the talking trash cans at Disney.  The guys who run those have the BEST job at Disney.  They were hilarious.  If you haven't see these, you have to search for talking trash can on YouTube.  I was trying to think of something like that for SDC.

Technically, you'd need more of a Mississippi River, Hannibalistic twang, but Ozarkian would pass.

I would hope for some great Mark Twain/Tom-and-Huck souvenirs in this area, too.  Something worth our while and not just t-shirts and keychains.

Why kind of crafts demos could be brought in that we don't already see?

When we were at Kennedy Space Center earlier this month, you had to put everything in a locker to ride the Shuttle Experience (not worth the time, BTW).  It was pretty silly that you had to put a quarter in the locker to get the key, and when you re-opened the door to retrieve your things, the quarter came back to you - - as if I came back to get that stupid quarter, but I would have left all my other possessions.
