With a name like that I wouldn't be surprised if the swing arms would have some sort of airplane theming elements.

This is the "atmosphere" the park had in the days of my youth.  I remember those little conversations that would occur.  They added to the experience of being in the 19th Century Ozarks.  Those hill people of SDC really romanticized the history.

I'm not a Dollywood guy, and I've never been there, but here's a video that claims Blazing Fury will be removed to make room for another train station next year:

So it's definitely the splash battle? I feel like this area could be used for so much more!

I think from the signs on the fence, the survey some of us filled out, the previous ride installed at Dollywood, and other hints, the evidence points to this as a sure thing.

That's good to know, and I'll definately check it out the next time we're there (hopefully soon).  I had thought most of the candy was made elsewhere and just packaged with an SDC logo, but this gives me a new respect for the operation.

A question for betamike:  Did the candy factory ever make anything other than peanut brittle?  It seems like I've seen video of someone making candy canes, but I don't know if it was at SDC.

Even if it wasn't, how hard would it be to make different candies for different seasons?

I imagine employees are not supposed to flirt or exercise acts of bondage on guests these days.

Some of us even noticed a noose in a video that Old Guy linked in another thread.  I suppose it's no longer acceptable to execute unruly guests any more either.

If you have any more stories like these, please tell them.  This is great stuff.

Those look like fun casts.  They are a throwback to the days when an actor could toss out a fake like just to see if the rest of the performers could squirm through it in response (like when Tim Conway would ad lib and break Harvey Korman up on the Carol Burnett show).  I can imagine what rehearsals were like.

The groups in these two venues were also much larger in number than they are today.  When I saw the saloon show last year there were just two saloon girls and two men in the show.  And it's been soooo long since we had a comedy in the playhouse.

Zephon, you certainly sound like one of us.  Welcome aboard, and please share more about the early history as you remember it.  We've talked about the saloon show in other threads and specific performers.  Do you have any stories to tell about your time there?

The Main Site tab is something we've needed for quite some time.  I'm sorry I didn't actually ask for it before you added it.

A great DVD could be put together with an introduction by Doc Harris in which he could explain the develoopment process for the new fuel.  They could do something that would make the video more than just the ride, and it could be pretty appealing if some thought is put into it.  Also, if they promised "previews of future attractions" and "the making of Wildfire" features on the video, would some of us be interested?

The problem is that it's like boiling a live frog:  turn up the temperature a degree at a time, and the frog never realizes he's in trouble.  It happened surprisingly fast at Six Flags Over Texas.  The theme of the park was actually six lands to correspond with the six flags that had flown over Texas.  Then the theme and the lands were lost to more kiddie faire with the park trying to be bigger and more thrilling in order to lure more money.  Now, Six Flags is a brand that you can see everywhere with its Looney Tunes and Superheroes.  I'm not saying there's anything wrong with their new concept; I'm just making a point to say that the concept is now completely absent, and there is no longer a legacy with Six Flags.  That's what I look for with SDC - legacy - and it's what will keep it interesting and lovable for generations to come.

I won't pay, either, but how much do people pay for a still shot?  Would it be that much more for a video to show to Grandma?  There are some teenagers and groups of teenagers that seem to have expendable income - money they have to return to their parents if they have any left over.  I've never seen the operation, though, so I guess time will tell.  Maybe there will be more on the video.

Do we know for sure that it will be $20?
