Random Talk / Things that Make you Go "Hmm."
« on: February 01, 2011, 03:17:27 PM »
Why does Steve want to shave the whales?

Can there possibly be a shortage of emoticons (I'm talkin' to you, Sanddunerider! ;))

Are people really laughing out loud when they write "lol"?  Are they actually rolling on the floor when they write "rofl

SDC Memories/ Park History / New SDC Games
« on: January 11, 2011, 11:28:18 PM »
Now that we have SDC Monopoly, how about other games?

Clue
Risk
Uno

We could sell these in our SDCFans book/museum/nostalgia store on the park.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / McHaffie's Homestead
« on: July 07, 2010, 12:30:05 AM »
In searching for information about the Bald Knobbers, I came across the Wikipedia article, which lists James K. Polk McHaffie as one of the original 12 or 13 members of the Anti-Horse Thief Association (which later became the Bald Knobbers).  Having not memorized the information at the homestead, did the McHaffie homestead belong to James' family, or is this just a coincidence?

Also, I've noticed before that Galba E. Branson was one of the originals, as well.  Is this a relation to Reuben Branson, for which the town is named?

After looking at the sites of some sister properties, I knew this was coming.  The SDC homepage has been upgraded.

...what artifacts would they find?

For those of you who aren't familiar with the SyFy show, Warehouse 13, which is starting it's second season this week, it's about federal agents who track down and capture objects with significant extraordinary powers.  The objects are usually connected with some type of historical figure (i.e., Harriet Tubman's thimble, Edgar Allen Poe's pen), and they possess some type of electrical or magnetic energy that gives them unique powers (i.e., Sylvia Plath's typewriter causes deep depression).  The show is like Pawn Stars meets Antiques Roadshow meets National Treasure meets science fiction.

I wonder what type of artifacts they would want to confiscate from SDC.  Some of you keep talking about a special feeling you get when you visit SDC; perhaps it's because of some special objects that have been inadvertently placed throughout the City...

Maybe this is too narrow of a topic for the forum; most of us have similar tastes, so we shall see.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / New Opera House Show: "Marmoros"
« on: June 21, 2010, 11:29:15 PM »
No, it's really not a new show, but it could be.  Help me think this through - a grand musical based on the Marmoros.

I'll start by saying, in the tradition of reworking classic musical numbers from old movies, plays, and animated features, I think the title number could be set to the title song in "Camelot".  What comes next?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Ever Get Sick?
« on: June 19, 2010, 09:20:19 PM »
On our visit, this week, the Electrospin was shut down because a girl got sick all over it (Glad I wasn't anywhere around!).  How often do people get sick on the rides?  Or because of the rides?  Or just get sick in general?  Which rides (or foods) are the biggest culprits?

Let's try this one:

1.  It smells good at almost every turn.

2.  If a convict escapes, you can always find him at the railroad crossing.

3.  Funnel cakes are on the food pyramid.

4.  Every night ends with a song (weather permitting).

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Security Breaches
« on: June 17, 2010, 12:29:09 AM »
With all the talk of wanting to move to the City or spend a night there, how is the security?  I don't mean I want to know how to break in or anything, but I remember when I was a kid even wondering if there was a fence around the park (since you often can't tell through the trees).  Have there been people who have tried to sneak onto the property after hours?  How often does that happen?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Season Passes Renamed
« on: April 01, 2010, 06:45:23 PM »
I've been thinking about how the "season" has grown for SDC from summer, to summer and fall, to spring, summer, and fall, to spring, summer, fall, and winter.  It's time to start calling the "Season Pass" something different!

How would we like to buy a "Seasons Pass" for 2011?

The "City Passport"?

Or how about the "Keys to the 'City'" pass?

Any ideas or suggestions?

I even think the ticket gate could be themed into a City Hall for the sales of tickets and passes.  It could make for a surprising facelift out front.
