General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Train Crash?
« on: March 30, 2023, 10:32:37 PM »
504 was pulling coaches today. No jokes about brakes, old wreak, or engineer's abilities.

Yeah I was afraid of that, but I saw it coming.

That was my thoughts too. Between the downtime and other incidents it's BSF all over again. I expect after the FITH project they may revisit it and change something out.

Cant say I'm surprised. I have seen several comments on the FB page complaining about getting hurt on the ride. It was only a matter of time before a lawyer got hold of one of them. It will probably get settled out of court.

I have tried to be respectful in my responses and posts.  My stance is that these incidences were preventable and this stance will not change until additional information is made available.  If this forum is not the proper place for discussions on serious incidents that occur at SDC, or if the moderator does not want this level of discussion I will refrain from commenting.

I wouldn't think too much of it. Never let a minority voice trying to stir the pot and being OTT inhibit you from speaking your mind. You offered valid insights and concerns. A person or place cannot grow and improve without taking insight or criticism. This isn't TPR where they berate and ban you for making critical comments and not being a yes-man. (talking from personal experience)

Regardless it's still concerning to see all these mishaps over the past three years. This park was once known for its stellar safety record and operations. Can't help but think corner cutting has been involved lately. The only other notable incidents at the park that I can recall is the guy who was killed in FITH and the incidents where people fell into Lake Silver.

Construction/Rumors / Re: Future SDC Development Speculation (Long-term)
« on: February 23, 2023, 03:43:42 PM »
While it would be logistically tricky being in the center part of the park, I could see them doing a Mystery Mine clone or Baron 1898 type ride integrating land from the Train Station, Flooded Mine, and the Waterboggan Tower, its just a question of what else adjacent to the area would also be taken out, if so.

It would be nice if SDC would again invest in things like interactive theming an immersive pre-show elements with their new attractions. Its one thing I am still skeptical they will carry over with FITH 2.0.

There's no way they'll remove yet another popular and storied attraction such as TNT without a replacement of some sort. Probably won't be a real replacement though, just another 'family' coaster. They need to add another family coaster regardless. Something like Firechaser has always been my hope.

Somehow I don't think we'll have to worry about it just yet though unless there is something really wrong with it that would cost a ton of money to fix. I know the tunnel is a pricey repair, but obviously they can still run the ride with the bump, and unless there is a sinkhole under it (actually a high probability) then surely they can cut and reweld the track to smooth it as they have done before.

I am skeptical too (at least within the next 5-10 years) considering they did a huge amount of structural repairs and retracking a year or so ago. From a business perspective it would seem impractical to invest in repairing something that you are just gonna rip out anyways in a couple years unless something really bad was discovered in the process.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Lisa Rau leaves SDC
« on: February 19, 2023, 03:57:16 AM »
The 30 year face of SDC's Publicity Dept. Lisa Rau is leaving SDC to work for the city of Branson.

"Rau worked at Silver Dollar City Attractions for more than three decades in representing the internationally-awarded theme park for more than half its existence. She is one of only two to have ever held the position of leading publicity efforts. During her tenure, she obtained prestigious awards including international Brass Rings (IAAPA) for public relations efforts, a Mid-America Emmy for video storytelling and several American Advertising Awards (ADDY) for broadcast advertising campaigns. Prior to Silver Dollar City, Rau was an award-winning news reporter with KYTV."

She is a sweet lady. I wish her the best. I wonder who is taking her PR spot at SDC?

FITH has been on the way out for years. I understand the sentiment, but there's no changing this decision. It's good to let the park know what you like and appreciate though. Hopefully it's not too late to make sure the new ride hits the same notes.

Yes. I'd say a more realistic petition is to have SDC ensure they respect the original by saving and reusing/recreating as much of the original ride's theme and scenery as possible and not make it a generic looking ride for the new version being built. It should also keep the wide appeal of the original which is where MRF was a mis-step from the comments I have seen/heard over the past couple years since it opened.

Dollywoods version is Blazing Fury and it was built shortly after FITH. It had a refurb by RMC about 10 years ago. It didn't have the controversial Baldknobbers theme in favor of a more generic theme. (which I expect will probably happen with SDC FITH 2.0)
I'd say their "original" version will be safe for at least another decade.

If you never heard of the Baldknobbers before working there, and only spent 1.5 years working at FITH, maybe you're not the best spokesman for ending the ride.

That's was my thoughts too. Kind of a wtf cringe moment.  ??? :o
I was also thinking with the historical significance of this landmark attraction closing that we would have had Brad or Lisa giving statements.

I think one of my favorite comments I have seen in reaction to this is:

"You've got a great past ahead of you... welp not no more."

I have serious doubts that the new ride will be called Fire in the Hole or be linked in any real way --- I think they will likely want a new name and also to break some record (tallest/fastest/darkest/something to set it apart) in order to attract new visitors.
Indeed I will be very surprised if any of the old ride will carry over outside of maybe a few obscure props such as the fire wagon and maybe the mural will be moved somewhere if it can be saved. Overall I expect it to be something generic to tie into FL. The audio and imagery being made publicly available on the website seems to allude to this.

As mentioned a few years ago when this was first talked about, there's no way the existing gags and Baldknobbers will return. SDC is now ran by a corporate entity in Atlanta who have no true attachment to the parks history.

Pretty much confirmed its the FITH farewell announcement. I commented RIP FITH and for people to get their final rides in this season. SDC "heart" reacted to it.
