General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Change out " Heading West"?
« on: August 05, 2010, 09:45:22 PM »
I enjoy "Heading West" and I also enjoyed "For the Glory" and "Listen to the River".  I do wish the continuity changes would be made to HW.  My husband and I talk about that each time we see the show; doesn't make sense.  I wish SDC would post cast lists outside the theaters for all shows.

Anyway, we also enjoy "Dickens" but we also enjoyed the Christmas in the Ozarks show.  I wish SDC would revive a smaller version of Christmas in the Ozarks in the Riverside Playhouse.

Anyone know why FITH has been closed so much lately?  It was down when we were there in late July and I've read on other boards about it being down on other days recently.

I'm going to Moonlight Madness Monday night with my cousin and her kids (and my kids).  I'll report on the parking situation.  And I know what you're thinking.  I'm pretty lucky to go again in less than a week.   :)

I have a slightly off-topic question.  When I went through the turnstiles both times, my pass would not scan on the "swipe-across" scanner.  They had to scan it with the gun scanner.  Then, each time the worker (different person each time) stopped me from going through the turnstile and ushered me through the wooden gate instead.  We were kid-free, so I didn't have a stroller or anything.  I mean, my pass eventually beeped with the gun thing.  It seemed like a big deal to make sure I went through the gate.  I was wondering what was up with that.  Not that it's important.

When we were there on the 23th, the citizen taking tickets noticed that my husband's pass had really faded and was not scanning.  So he stopped and printed out a new one for my husband.  Hopefully the people in line behind us didn't get too irritated.

Parking was easy this past Friday morning before opening but it was so backed up at the turnstiles even though every slot was open.  I, too, wonder why the season pass entrance isn't used anymore.

Husband and I went to the park on Friday July 23.  We parked in the small lot near tram stop 4; 2 trams were waiting.  Got into the square about 10 minutes before opening so we headed to Sullivan's Mill and used our coupon for some Cinnamon Bread; yummy but I just wish hot bread was available early in the morning.  We went over to River Blast and rode it twice.  We did get soaked.  Then we walked over and joined the line for the opening of Lost River.  Noticed that the Riverfront Playhouse was closed.  Thought that was odd because it usually has some show like Veggie Tales in it during Kids Fest.  Had to wait about 15 minutes to ride.  From there we walked over to FITH but it was closed.  Not sure why.  We didn't stop to talk to the 2 employees who were standing by the closed sign.  As we walked by the saloon a citizen was out begging people to go in for the show that was getting ready to start -- plenty of room left.  We went on over to the American Plunge and waited in line about 10 minutes.  From there we went over to the apple butter cabin and used the coupon for an apple turnover; it was tasty but it was not hot, either.  Went on over to Thunderation and walked right on to the ride.  Left at 11:30 because we had to be in Springfield that afternoon.  We did have to wait about 10 minutes for a bus to ride back to the lot.

We were surprised at how light the crowd was on Friday morning.  We've gone several times on Fridays in May and those days are always wild with all of the school groups.  We had hoped to make it back for MM on Friday or Saturday but it didn't work out.

Our next trip will be in August.  Already looking forward to it.

Shuttle service uses the same roads as everyone else.  It runs once or twice an hour so sometimes you can have a long wait when you're ready to leave the park.

I got the Herschend Family Entertainment survey about 3 days ago.  The one I received asked which park I had been to most recently and then asked questions about the website.

Anyone know anything about Chesters moving?

Chester's moved to the strip center across from Branson Mall; it's in the space where Penny Gilley had her restaurant.  The menu is not as extensive as it was but still has a lot of the favorites.

We used to camp there a lot but quit after most of what we considered the prime RV spaces were filled up with cabins (cabins when rented make more money per night).  Didn't like the campsites right on the highway.  Now we camp at Tall Pines most of the time where most of the sites are off the highway but the campground is still very convenient for SDC.

I remember seeing the Chapmans at Bluegrass and BBQ one year but I don't remember the year.

Actually you can ride a Duck for the tour.  I took the TRD tour back in 2000.

I remember when bungee jumping was the big craze in Branson (and elsewhere).

This place has tickets for some shows, attractions, and motels and there's no timeshare tour involved.
