Arrrg....

Everyone's tired of hearing this, and I'm tired of saying it, but it may be awhile yet before I get much done. Not only am I getting busier every day, but I'm also preparing to apply for a new job, and there's lots to do to prepare for that. Plus, it's harder than I thought to make the rating system. I'm going to have to go back and do a lot of study before I try again. Maybe I'll get a chance this weekend, but maybe not.

Hopefully though, I'll find some way to get some updates up this week. News has been slow, but I might be able to dig some stuff up.

Branson Talk / Branson Developement
« on: September 03, 2007, 09:19:59 PM »
Ever notice how all those massive, pointless strip malls in Branson just ruin the natural beauty of that area? I mean, look at this photo ->http://bp2.blogger.com/_zOhheIvaFOA/Rty2rUKvWqI/AAAAAAAABDI/A8MpKq_JHmg/s1600-h/100_6063.JPG

They just blast huge chunks out of the hills, then make massive square plots that jut out haphazardly across what once were beautiful valleys. I'm not really a naturalist or a tree-hugger here, but it seems to me that they could at least try a bit harder not to completely destroy the environment with their buildings that will most likely be abandoned in 5 years. I mean, really, it's like everyone thinks they can just plop a giant, bloated strip mall somewhere in Branson and people will just flock to it because of the fact that it's Branson. They could at least diversify a little, most strip malls have basically the same stores.

It looks like it must be on the very far side of the lake. Maybe you can catch a glimpse of it before your raft heads up the lift on LRotO.

Yes, directly behind the magic shop and the big skillet place.

^That's not even close to the amount of graffiti in TGS's line. Last I was there, a kid decided to scrawl his name all over the wall, and a ride attendant told him he'd be escorted out of the park. Well, then mommy and daddy came to the rescue and started a fight with the ride op., rather than notice what their son was doing, much less be bothered to punish him. It's like they had their family honor trodden on, the way they fought. They said they'd sue because there were no 'don't grafitti' signs, therefore the punishment was unreasonable.

Yeah, don't put to much faith in humanity.

Anyway, back onto the topic at hand, there's a nice place to sit and eat near ThuNderaTion, behind the food skillet stands. It's very wooded and has a nice view over the valley where the ampitheatre is, although there are usually plenty of people around.

It's probably just a coincidence, it's not like that many people come across this site.

Interesting, that's really not even a re-creation. Looks like the only thing he took from the original ride was the name.

Other Parks / Re: What parks have you been to??
« on: September 02, 2007, 10:50:27 PM »
I've been to a very few considering what an enthusiast I am. The thing with me is that I pick out the parks I like and I buy season passes for them and visit several times a year. Too bad I can't do that more with SDC this year.

    Anyway, I've been to:

    • SDC
    • CC
    • Bell's
    • Frontier City
    • Cedar Point
    • Alton Towers
    • Flamingoland
    • LightWater Valley
    • Cadona's
    • Metroland

It feels like I've been to more though, I may be missing a few.

You can't always trust PARC's websites though. They're worst than SF in the way they use rides from other parks in their ads.

I'm sure it had something to do with kids loitering, or someone doing something dangerous to get at the water. Or maybe insurance struck again like with the cave/slides.

Construction/Rumors / Buzzsaw Falls - Remake?
« on: September 02, 2007, 07:46:38 PM »
It was quite a ride, although it did fall short of what it could have been. Being a prototype had it's ups and downs (heh, heh). I liked it well enough though, and most of the people I knew did too.

The problem is though, like I said before, some people want to ride coasters, some people want to ride a water ride, but only a portion of those people want to ride both at once. It makes more business sense to build one or the other, at least at this point.

Someday though, it would be great to see a come-back addition of the ride, with a little more to it than a helix and a drop.

I used to like just hanging out around the waterfall, but then they took out the pathway that went right under it. Anyone know why they did this?

Construction/Rumors / Re: The next coaster (SDC)
« on: September 02, 2007, 02:20:28 PM »
Everyone loves these topics, right?
Well, anyway, we've got plenty of hope to go towards SDC's next coaster. It's been said that SDC's next major investment will come in 2009, and it's also been said that by the time SDC hosts the ACE 2009 coaster con, they'll be plenty of coasters to enjoy (it was implied that there would be more than they have now).

You said in the very first post in this thread that it was "implied" that SDC would get two more coasters by 2009. And the park has said that there won't be a new coaster in 2008. But, I can't imagine SDC adding two roller coasters in one offseason. So I'm just wondering how in the world that's going to come to a reality....

No, actually I meant to say that it was implied that SDC will get one new coaster in or by 2009.

As for a Buzzsaw Falls come-back, it's very improbable. Mainly just because of the way the ride would fit into the park. As it is, the park will have plenty of good coasters by 2009, and they probably will want a ride that is simply 'wet' and not a hybrid. Generally, because of the way people are picky and the changing weather, it's good to have rides that can be classified simply as either wet or dry. This is especially true at seasonal parks.

Thus, yes, it's highly likely that we'll get our own Splash Battle in 2010 or soon after.

I've been working a lot with MySQL and PHP this week, and I'm pretty close to making a test version of the rating system. I'll need a couple of people to test it out and make some suggestions, so I'll have it posted up later this week.

The replica cabin at the edge of the main square behind the basket shop -easily. Hardly any SDC patrons ever find that place, even after years of visits. It's not necessarily secluded, but it's very out-of-the-way. You pretty much have to be wandering purposelessly to find it. The cabin is a mock-up of what a real frontier cabin would have been like in the 1880's, and has been at the park since the 60's. Inside are various amenities from the time period, including a bed and stove. Being right at the edge of the woods and in a quite part of the park makes it a great place to just sit and think.
