General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: CC Fall Family FUNFest Announced

A corn maze? I thought they would have used hay bails. How exactly are they getting the corn there, and into the shape of a maze? Anyone got any photos?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Crowd Levels?
« on: September 18, 2007, 08:25:02 PM »
In case you haven't seen the article from yesterday on the home page, we know officially know that SDC hasn't been doing so well this season. So far attendance has come in 30,000 under what was projected, but they hope to make it up in the fall and be at their usual 2 million by the end of the year.

It's disheartening though, because they did just spend $6 million on a major new ride/area, and any decrease in attendance is thus doubly bad news. This is the kind of thing that will slash budgets, especially on projects like the Mansion re-hab. Hopefully it won't hurt the 2008 improvements budget or the possible 09' woodie plans.

Errr.

You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to forget about the rating system and everything else for now and I'm just going to concentrate on the new site version. Rather than try to get test examples of the comment boxes, rating systems, and other things out before, I'm just going to throw it all in the new version at once.

So now you won't have to see anymore annoying small updates about how a particular feature is doing, it'll all just come in a heap next month.

Yup... So I'm still having troubles with the database connection and other things... Who knows when all this will be settled out. It may be best for everyone to forget I mentioned anything and just wait till something happens.

Edit: Bad news, again. The rating system I downloaded simply cannot work with my host. I'll have to go back to attempting to build my own version, which will likely be pretty crappy.
I think for now, I'm going to focus most of my efforts simply on the new site version.

Other Parks / Re: Big Developments at FC
« on: September 16, 2007, 01:56:18 PM »
FC has a big market. I mean, it pretty much controls most of the major thrill-seeking populations of Oklahoma, as they are the only theme park currently in operation in the entire state, plus southern Kansas. Besides, FC is no turd park; with a little work and a few new rides, it'll be pretty kick-ass.
They've actually had an outstanding year of attendance from what I've heard.

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: Through the Decades

The Tree House must have gone through a phase between now and when everything else was in it, because I definitely remember there being a club house up there in the early nineties with fake guns hanging out the windows and a few games and such.

Heh, favorite smell? The hell if I know: the apple butter store, the skillets, the BBQ pits, the taffy shop, the wood cutter's hut, and the sweet shop all rank pretty high in terms of smell.

^^Great info, I'm feeling better about this change ever more as it gets closer.

I'm glad they're at least keeping Carol Of The Bells, that's a pretty classic song. Joy To The World is nice, but it's a bit over-used.

A few folks mentioned that families are CC target audience.  I totally agree.  Expanding on this, though:  If CC would bring in some mid-level Christian rock bands- make it a series of Thursday Night shows, they could youth ministers pack that park out.  The Christian community totally trust SDC and CC and want to make them prosper.  CC has offered nothing except the dinking Family Praise day that coming up on OCT 20.  C'mon!!!!!!  There are families and youth wanting to spend time together in Branson and money to be made.  CC needs to seal the deal.

Quite a good point, especially seeing as the Young Christian day at SDC is probably the second most-crowded day of the season, if not the most. That's the only time I've seen Wildfire's overflow queue used since 2001.

Btw, Welcome to the forums.

It wasn't great for me either. I gave my resume' to what I hope to be my new boss, but the examples of my work I had on there all break down terribly in IE 6, and there wasn't time to fix it.

^None that I can think of right away. There is a company called B&M however, whom are famous for Wildfire and Batman: The Ride.

I could really spring for a boardwalk, I just don't see it happening in forever. With WW and CC pretty well established, it would be terribly costly to move them in together. Besides, think of the infrastructure that would have to be taken care of at the old site and built at the new site.

I expect to see CC go on struggling and limping, trying to find its niche', for another decade or so. Maybe we'll see a cheap coaster here and a mildly good flat there, but I can't see much happening unless things start to really pick up for the park. After all, look what happened this year: they bought a highly used, rusted-out Wisdom Tornado. They don't exactly seem keen on investing in big rides or much right now, not even in shows (the new stages were pretty cheap). As long as they can get away with cheap gimmicks, I think we'll be bombarded with them until they can figure something out. Sigh...

^Hmmm, I wouldn't have thought that HFEC would lease land for something that large, so I also would expect them to move the park, or at least buy the land.

I dunno about turning CC into White Water though. Afterall, they spent over $40 million on the park thus far, I kinda want to see it succed as a park in some way. Maybe if they turned the larger portion of it into WW, and left a few things like OzCat behind for a small trolley-park to accompany it, just like at Wyandot Lake.

Quick update - I gave up on making my own rating system, as it would take forever, so I downloaded a free version (it's not crappy though. In fact, it's really good.). I hope to have it up for a quick test by Friday, and hopefully it'll get implemented on the site this weekend. I've got a job interview tomorrow though, so we'll see how much time I have.

The comment boxes will come next, and will take much less time. I'll start working on the new template simultaneously.

Probably not. Like two parties in a presidential race, you don't want to have the crowds split. Remember, one of the reasons CC hasn't been a bigger success is that people have decided to choose one park, rather than both due to costs, time, or whatever. That makes it all the more probable that CC will not only have to wait till after SDC gets it's turn, but even longer so that the glory fades a little for CC to be able to shine clearly.

Yes, OzCat was the only reason CC didn't fail miserably from the start. I mean, I wouldn't have gone without it. If they only had another headlining attraction, they'd be much better off. As it is, that probably won't happen until SDC gets their next headliner, and if that happens in 2009, we won't see anything big at CC until 2010-11 at the earliest. Until then I expect to see the park swamped with family-friendly ventures.
