Random Talk / Re: The SDCFans Lounge

So how was your trip to Branson, Coaster?

^That kind of attraction really is what SDC is hungry for. I mean really, you just can't go wrong with something like the Lost River, which is thrilling enough for guys like me to enjoy, let easy enough for even the fogies to ride. That's why there's a good chance we'll be getting our own Beaver Battle like DW soon, probably as soon as 2010.

Announcements / Re: So Much Stuff, So Little Time

Quick update -

Again, so much is happening right now that I have little time for the site, but as always, the promise of being able to do much more with the site in the future looms ahead. Right now, I'm working on updating all the old files to the new site template, and I've nearly got the comment boxes for news reports and other things done. I want to finally tackle that rating system once and for all soon, seeing as I finally have figured out more or less how to build one, but next week I won't have a moment to spare, and who knows when I will.

Thanks for keeping up with the site though. Things should start picking up again soon, in time for us to hype up SDC and CC's 2008 projects. Hopefully by Christmas, I'll have re-designed the site again - but this time stuff will actually work!

^What a family... :D

^Seeing as they have $6-8 million to work with, and a mansion re-hab would only take a few hundred thousand at most, no. I still am wary of any new flat rumors for this year though. I mean, I know the Herschend have really bought into the ride craze during this decade, but I think they're feeling the backlash now with so many older visitors screaming for something new for them. I mean, like I said before, the shoppers and general park-goers are still a much larger draw for SDC than young families or thrill seekers.

Hopefully they'll hint at or announce something this month, because I'm really clueless at this point as to what they'll end up doing, but there's so much potential...

^Especially seeing as it would fit in so well with Powderkeg, as PK is themed to a mine more-or-less. Hell, PK even has its own shot tower already.

Yeah, I could definitely see the old shot tower plans come back to life within the next few years.

It's called the Gravity Max, and it's in Taiwan.

^A cheese shop would work well in Wilson's farm. Hell, an entire dairy store with ice cream bar would work well in the farm.

Woodies aren't cheap. Especially the one SDC would get.

Woodies, especially GCII woodies, tend to be very cheap comparatively speaking. If SDC went all-out and got a monster woodie, it would only cost them $10 million or so, whereas a monster steel coaster costs more like upwards of 15-17 million.

As for Tilt coasters, only one exists, and for good reason. The lift is a big gimmick with huge operational problems. The ride itself is pretty mediocre and apparently can be quite rough.

^It looks cool until you ride one and it leaves you unable to lift yourself out of your seat from the bashing. Plus, operational issues are huge.

A woodie, on the other hand, is timeless, fun, thrilling, cheap, and family-friendly.

^Sounds a bit like what the entire park is already. Although, a new shopping hollow would be nice.

Well, at this point, it's just about confirmed that Grandpa's mansion will get a make-over. As far as anything else goes though, everything is up in the air. I'm sure a number of possible options have been laid out as usual, and the upper management are waiting to choose. I do think though, that the city will try to appeal to the older, more mature crowd this year rather than younger families or thrill seekers. Young families have gotten the spotlight for the last several years, and thrill seekers will eat their hearts out next year - besides, old fogies are still one of SDC's largest attending groups.

I'm pretty much standing by what I said before about the Landing Midtown being revamped to hold more shops, but they may hold out on that area and add new shops elsewhere, like near the old Shanty Town area.

Yeah, I know, but they usually start appearing in less-noticed areas before they really get everywhere, or at least that's how it used to be.

I think it was that self-propelled rail way that used to be in Shanty Town. Apparently one or two people climbed into little carts and in some manner propelled the cart around the track at varying speeds. Now that I think about it, I can't imagine why they haven't re-built it. It would be cheap, fun, and a big hit with the younger crowd.

In case anyone didn't see, Copper has contributed a set of photos showing some of the park's fall decorations, Christmas lights being set up, the Flooded Mine, and the Gandy Dancer, which as it turns out, I didn't even know was there. When everyone talked about the old tracks in the landing, I was thinking of something else; these tracks are actually huge! I wonder if it's possible for them to be re-built again.
