We're swinging by for a little day trip.  We're mainly going to get a festival credit for the Christmas ornament since we fell behind this spring.  Does that officially make us dorks?   :)

Several years ago, I remember that the Indiana Jones theme played once when I toured the cave. . .

I would say it is at least to the water feature and possibly to the spiral walkway to the side of it, if that makes sense.  We just made a quick walk through, and that pesky fence makes seeing things difficult  :)

We are on our last little trip before school starts, and I took these pictures today.  I don't know if they give any new information, but this is what I have. . .

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: L.A. Suess?

lThanks for the replies.  I had seen that show at the Riverfront Playhouse a few times.  I didn't remember him specifically, though.  By the way he was dressed at Hannibal, he could've stolled right back in to SDC and fit right in  :)

SDC Memories/ Park History / L.A. Suess?
July 25, 2008, 11:56:39 PM
We recently returned from a trip that included passing through Hannibal.  After we rode the riverboat in town, I was reading information online later that night.  I read about an entertainer named L.A. Suess who lists SDC as a previous engagement.  Earlier that afternoon, we saw him holding his banjo on Main Street, but at the time we didn't realize his history, so we didn't stop to talk to him (we were in our car at the time).  What exactly did he do at the city?  Just curious. . .

I actually liked the circus on ice better than the magic show.  The only thing I really didn't like about the circus was the use of the projection screen.  I would have liked to see the girl skate with the hoop this year, but I did like the act with the cloth--similar to the acrobats of China act.

I can't really put my finger on why the magic show annoyed me, but I was ready for it to end.  Don't get me wrong, the illusions were cool, but after awhile I was ready for it to end.  I agree that it does end suddenly.

My cousins were disappointed in the Veggie Tales show, but I didn't see it.  They thought the show inolved too many people just dancing around the vegetables.

I wish they would bring back shows similar to what they used to have in the opera house.  I like silly little musical or comedy shows.  I also liked the riverboat show they had with the Cajun Connection a few years ago.  I guess the saloon show is musical comedy, but even that show hasn't been as good the last two years.

Dollywood had a good show last year; I nearly cried watching it, and my daughter was on the edge of her seat for the whole show.  It was a story about teenagers at a 1950s burger joint and how their lives progressed as the decades passed.  I guess that type of show wouldn't really fit in as well at SDC, but shows at Kids Fest often don't fit the 1880s theme.

Thanks for the opportunity to give my opinion.   :)

Other Parks / Re: Bell's Is Coming Back!

I'm so glad to hear that.  I was hoping that Bells would find a home.  I have great memories of visits there when I was a kid.   :)

Maybe you're right History Buff.  We went to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg last summer for our weeklong vacation.  Yes, you do have to pay to park at Dollywood, but you also have another option.  Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg has a trolley service that you can use.  It's 50 cents a ride (in town) and 75 cents (to the other town).  Dollywood is near the transfer station in Pigeon Forge, so we just used that.  Of course, we are a family of three, so you would have to weigh the costs for larger families.  SDC has no other options (aside from motel/resort shuttles), so why not build the fee into the price of admission?  Of course, Dollywood may have similar admission prices; I can't remember.  Last year, All-City Passholders received free admission to Dollywood and Splash Country.  I guess we picked the year to go  :)

I've been on the Ozark Wildcat, and I will say, it's probably the smoothest one I've tried, and I ride it at least once per visit.   I usually get a horrible headache after riding a woodie, but I usually try each one I come across once (I can't resist.) I guess that's why I just can't get too excited about a woodie at SDC.  I think I like the Wildcat because it's rather small compared to the Timber Wolf, Texas Giant, and the Dollywood's Thunderhead.  Maybe those are just too big for me...

Hi,

I don't post often, but I am an avid lurker.  I love Silver Dollar City, and I've been going my whole life.   I loved the 50s show in Echo Hollow.  I really liked how they incorporated a song from Hairspray into the show.  I love Dickens at Christmastime, and I like the saloon show.  I really like the show with more of a story instead of just watching a band or a group of performers do unrelated songs.  I just wanted to speak up for those who like shows with a little bit of Broadway flair. . .

Also, I love thrill rides.  Yes, I enjoy the atmosphere and theme of SDC, but I like to get the blood flowing, too!  We went to Dollywood last summer, and we had a good time on the Mystery Mine (although I would say that Wildfire and PowderKeg are more "thrilling;"  Mystery Mine is more of a total experience).  I would love to see something like that at SDC.  I do like my rides to be smooth, and I've yet to meet a smooth woodie.  The woodie at Dollywood is NOT smooth.

I just wanted to toss my two cents in.  I also hope that CC keeps the 50s theme.  I just wish it was open until midnight so we have something to do at night.  We seldom see a Branson show for the reasons stated above, and after 10:00, there's little to do anyway for night owls.

SDC Memories/ Park History / Some pictures
March 23, 2008, 12:06:01 AM
Hi,
Since I am home for Easter, I had the opportunity to look through some old pictures and I thought I would share some.  This is my first attempt to post pictures.  This is my baby sister and I, around 1985, giving the Gandy Dancer a try. . .

Here I am at around three years old (around 1978) exploring a "cave"

This is the same trip.  My cousin and I get a ride in SDC rental strollers

And this last one is an earlier picture, taken before I was born in the late 1960s or early 1970s

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share.  Happy Easter!

I have a tie for my most memorable trips.  One was my first visit at Christmas time.  I'd been to SDC often over the years, but my first Chrismas trip wasn't until 2004.  It was breathtaking!

The other memorable trip would be our wedding.  We were married in the Wilderness Church on October 15, 2005.  Fifty of our closest friend and family were together in one of our favorite places.  The wedding staff was so professional, we didn't have to worry about a thing.  We have awesome pictures of our families in SDC.  We had a reception in Branson, and then off to Celebration City that night.  It was one of the longest days in my life, but had a great time through all of it!

I love this forum!  I spend a lot of time lurking.  I guess I'll post now.

I remember several of the saloon shows. I remember the prohibition one vaguely.  I remember a Buffalo Bill show where all of the girls wore pink saloon dresses.  I also like the Mean Murphy one.

My favorite show of all time was in the Riverfront Playhouse (I think it's called now), or Gaslight as I remember it.  It was a musical show about a time machine.  A magician picked up someone from the audience (an actor) and travelled with him to the past.  I also remember a show there about pretending a house was haunted.  Volunteers from the audience helped with the haunting.  I also liked the show that Cajun Connection had in there with the set being a riverboat that was travelling down the river.
