In Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, we see the Grangerford/Sheperdson feud, which was patterned from the actual Darnell/Watson feud, in fact fought in the Mississippi River bottoms on the TN/KY border.

Joy may be right about the publication dates being the more influential.

Now, THAT would be irony:  close Love My Country in a year launching a patriotic theme   :o

I don't question the Missouri connection for Twain's characters but the ERA.  By 1884 (this season), both boys would have been middle-aged men, about my current age.   ;D

How/When did SDC get connected to Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn?  My childhood visits predated them.  I have never understood how they are supposed to related to the 1880s Ozarks.

With a little warning, I'm pretty sure I could supply a crew for the 6 pounder.

well keep in touch palalin, I may be there the 30th also....  have not decided yet, but seriously hoping to be there 29th or 30th.....

I have to apologize, Sanddune:  my wife decided literally on the morning of the 26th that we were going that day.  I barely had time to get in the car much less to post.

We had been planning to do our family OTC trip thsi Saturday, but the flooding rains in the forecast (and temps in the low 40s) have scared us away.

My wife is off the 26th and the 30th, so it looks like we're going to try either the 2nd or the 6th Day of Christmas this year.

Snow doesn't scare us.  Soaking rains in low temps do, however.

It has taken me this long to find the book and the page, but here is the pic:  Note the caption and the date.

Please, cause they were convinced on local news that there are no records of it on the books since they started keeping them in the 1800s. Even said anywhere in Arkansas. The flakes a couple weeks back were the lastest I've seen. I've experienced accumulating snow on Halloween weekend before in NWA.

This says KC has had measurable May snow only once

NOTE to SELF:  Do NOT read Junior's posts when drinking water.

NOTE to JUNIOR:  You owe me a keyboard   :D :D :D

I want to enjoy my November and Thanksgiving first before getting into the Christmas spirit.  It's not likely that we'll get there before December, so that works out.  We are thinking of going during the weekend AFTER Christmas Day, however.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: SDC Food Poll Question
« on: October 17, 2013, 09:43:07 AM »
I am never not filled by the portions there, so I guess that's not a problem for me.

I am limited on the skillets as I can't stand squash or sweet potatoes, so the Lumberjack skillet w/out them and the new BBQ skillet are my favorites.

Springhouse fried chicken qualtiy is hit-or-miss, a quality inhereted, I suppose, from Aunt Polly's, whihc had the same problem.

I've never had a bad burger at the Wagon Works.

NOBODY does ice cream better than Hannah's!

Molly's Breakfast Buffet is our choice for the morning, and we usueally don't need to eat lunch later thanks to it.

The Mine has always struck me as a little too generic in their food, but you can eat a bunch, so it's filling.

We currently plan to.  The fall has been tough for us because of classes I was scheduled to teach but which didn't attract enough enrollment.  Still, the family has decided that the season passes are the big Christmas present we won't do without.
