Fantastic news!! I hope we are able to follow K.D. where she goes. She has always treated my wife and me like royalty. She’s the best!!

Agreed.  She deserves better than she has gotten in this situation, to be sure.

We didn't hear numbers, but we were told that the Saturday and Sunday crowds were huge.  Interesting to see the actual figures.

The City was a pleasure Monday.  The breeze helped to ameliorate the heat.

Pleasant surprise to see the 504 dressed up in a near-authentic Frisco passenger livery!  One of the robbers' last day doing the skit--he's moving up to engine service.  Lucky robber!

We were there Sunday night/Monday morning.  KD actually teared up when speaking of how things had gone for her.  But she didn't say anything about the hours or the inability to get food.  Glad you stepped up for that!

One guest really raked her over the coals Monday AM because there was no coffee pot in his room.  She offered to give him one and explain why it was not there, but he was uninterested, and blew her off.  We made a point of thanking her for her help and for her efforts.

What a wretched situation:  too bad the previous owners changed their plans on her.

Palallin... who did you talk to..  Did you verify room rate over phone?  IF not suggest you do so when you check in...  Maybe I will see you...

My made the call, so I don't know, but the person acknowledged our record of staying there and quoted us $45 ($40 for the room, $5 for the 20 yr old boy, $0 for the 17 yr old--kid rate).

We'll be arriving sometime Sunday afternoon or early evening--not making rigid plans yet.

We set up reservations for the night of 9/2.  Everything was easy to do.  Had to call back to assure a ground-level room for my wife (who can't do stairs right now because of her hip).

Thanks Hikerdan, I will be sure to check out Springfield brewing company. I am in the KC area right now and my favorite here is Torn Label. So many choices in KC though. Good thing there is Uber. LOL

If you are in KC, surely you've hopped west to Freestate in Lawrence?

It was my understanding that none of the original DUKWs were still in operation, as of several years ago.  If that is not the case, then I was misinformed by an employee of the company.

I have ridden the Ducks often, and I will again, Lord willing.  Have we shut down the airlines when a plane crashes?  Put an end to bus lines when a bus crashes?  Shall we close down all thrill rides because of accidents on some?

This is a tragedy, but any loss of life in such circumstances is.  Friends, LIFE is neither safe nor secure.  But this is not an example of irrational behavior or fundamentally dangerous vehicles.  This is like a bus being blown off the road in a tornado.  It is most emphatically not a reason to bring to an end an otherwise wholesome and enjoyable experience.

I get so very tired of history being buried because it doesn't fit the sensibilities of too many overly-sheltered folk today.

We talked to Tom last month when we were there.

Jim wanted more time with his family--who can blame him?

Rich is really grown into his role, and I think he'll be around a while.

We miss Jim, but Michael is *really* good, and I think he'll fit in well.

As long as the City puts on shows, they'll need guys like these, so I am very optimistic about the future of the Sons.

The Pickers are on my 3 Favorite List in the City:  Pickers, train, FM.

But I have to admit I've never heard of Cedric.

That's a real shame when you have plans and illness gets in the way.  "The best laid schemes . . . ."

Yeahbut, the people who can afford his original paintings call that kind of money pocket change.

Yes, we do eat, so maybe.  On the other hand, coming up with the total up front is more difficult that spreading it out it over the year.

We've got the old mugs, and I think the discounts we get more than compensate us.

No interest in the photos at all, so that would simply be a waste of money for us.

Everybody's wants/needs are different.  What would work for you wouldn't for us.  So color me uninterested.  I would be unpleased to lose the value of my old mugs when no expiration date was ever put on them.

But, as I said, I understand the potential rationale from HFE's perspective.

I was happy to see that, at FM, many of the lanterns are some kind of simulated flame.  They look VERY good, and I applaud that effort!
