General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Crowd Levels?
« on: September 19, 2007, 09:59:14 PM »
I find it remarkable that they have not had bigger attendance problems.  The weather  has been outstandingly bad.  I really think that when the weather allowed for it, that people totally packed the park out.  I don't think that I've been there with higher concentrations of people than this spring.  If the weather is nice this fall, I agree that there are going to be so man people in the park that it will be uncomfortable throughout the first five hours of the park's day.

Okay.  But do you think that there is a market to support that park even if it was finished?  What is DW?

I would call the Zingo one of my top 10 favorites.  I know I'm a little anti-climatic, but I prefer old wood that is under 50 MPH and definately under 100 ft tall.  I really like the little things. . . like that tunnel that no one sees coming.

I like Bells for several reasons, but none of them have to do with the park, so I kind of feel like my opinion doesn't count.  I can boast that I have raced a 350 lbs man down the racing water slides and lost. . . but really enjoyed watching him go thirty feet beyond me.

If Frontier City survives, it will prove that regioinal parks have an economic place in this era.  If Frontier City closes, it will prove that a really good regional park was choked to death by destination parks 3-5 hours away.  I totally agree that this would be a sad message, but it might be an economic truth.

In the editorial that led to this discussion, I thought there was an interesting point: "Why didn't SDC buy Wild West World?"  I think that this is too easy.  The only reason they should buy that park is if they want the rides.  The park was under-developed  and currently has the worst public relations problem in the world.  Nobody will buy a season passport to that park next year.  Furthermore, it probably is considered to be in the same market as SDC and could only cause competition for CC.

Frontier City MIGHT have been a better idea.  BUT, again, Frontier City might still be in competition with SDC.  I'm sure SDC has a map somewhere that details exactly how far their influence reaches.

Ihave a morbit curiousity about the long term survivial of Frontier City.  I can't say why, but with so many parks closing in the south, why would FC also survive?

GCI all the way!  Here's the deal:  Outlaw and Ozark Wildcat are great examples of smallslower coasters can pack all of the punch of a mega coaster if they are designed correctly.  A coaster of about 70 feet would contrast the boss very well.  Personally, I don't think they're building more coasters this year.  They just built Tony Hawk and I am in agreement with the earlier post that SF is tryng to go with families.
A couple of years ago, everyone was just posiive that SF was building a stand up. . . never happened.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: How's Celebration City Doing?

Hopefully, I'm doing this right (first time).  I went to CC the second year it opened but returned this August.  I hated CC the first time.  This time, though, I was really happy with the sea lion show, parrots, veggietale (at least my 4 year old loved it), and legoland.  I think that shows and other one year events could be the secret to success for the park.
A few folks mentioned that families are CC target audience.  I totally agree.  Expanding on this, though:  If CC would bring in some mid-level Christian rock bands- make it a series of Thursday Night shows, they could youth ministers pack that park out.  The Christian community totally trust SDC and CC and want to make them prosper.  CC has offered nothing except the dinking Family Praise day that coming up on OCT 20.  C'mon!!!!!!  There are families and youth wanting to spend time together in Branson and money to be made.  CC needs to seal the deal.
