I did not mind the logo- it surprised me a little- especially that there giving it a test run. . .not sure why they're releasing it early.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: How was your trip?
« on: July 07, 2009, 10:50:57 PM »
We went Wednesday, July 1 and found the day so enjoyable that we stayed longer than we usually stay.  Concerning workers in Grand Exposition, I remember thinking- "did they get rid of the grouchy old people?"  We didn't spend a lot of time in Grand Exposition, but no one ever gave me specific instructions of how to sit in the Bugs if Wonder.  (This is turning into my pet peave. . .I'm 37 years old . . .I'll fold my legs however I dang well please when I'm crunched in a small place.)  The lines were. . . existent. . .so we caught Jeerk and Veggietale (AGAIN).  I thought Jeerk could easily have ended their show a little earlier and still wowwed me.   Absolutely hated their rock "band" impression.  Loved the overall show.

Cooper,
You are giving me peace about this thing.  Is it possible that SDC is just trying to say "We have a flash pass system"- BUT then sell so few that the general public is never annoyed by the thing.  So you think that they will always keep the daily sale beneath 100 per day?  While I'll always find these things SLIGHTLY wrong (capitalism wins), I think that I could live with Trailblazer as long as sales were kept to 25-100.
My worst encounter with "Flashpass" was a 90-120 minute line for the indoor coaster down at Dallas.  They kept letting people cut in obsessively.  SF easily tripled the line time.  My cousins complained of it when they were riding Rattler in San Antonio.  SF is just ridiculous on these things.

Swoosh-
I can't believe that you opened the theological door of writing about favortism and other issues that are talked about in scripture.  Probably you did not mean for anyone to jump off on this point, but there is a nasty tinge of the rich buying favor and. . .man, I don't know how far I want to go with this.  Anyway, I have always looked at the show pass as possibly excusable because the elderly should not stand in line for an hour.  But, the elderly are not going to be on rides.  Don't take me too seriously, theology and capitalism gets ugly quick. . .but there may a clash of money v. ideals.

Hmm- surely this will only be sold to out of towners who don't know how short the lines are.  I can only think that you would need one for Lost River and maybe the Swing.  They don't let you use the pass on the Toboggan?  Bummer.  You don't think that they would ever manipulate lines to encourage people to buy these things?  If they only ran one coaster, they might increase sales.

There is another issue that we haven't touched on:  If SDC wants to reduce the  demand for a cheaper Bring- a - Friend tickets, then shouldn't they put some coupons out there?  There are reduced tickets to Six Flags at grocery stores, and Worlds of Fun also offers reduced advanced pries.  SDC offers pitiful discounts- if any at all.  Haven't they created the black market to a degree?

I do not believe that SDC if offering Bring-A friend tickets totally out of the kindness of their hearts.  Why do they do it?  To fill the park and sell stuff.

I really appreciate Hisory Buff's Words- I still thinking about some of the debates on this page.  Morality and Capitalism is a nasty mix.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Christian Family Day
« on: April 06, 2009, 04:10:14 PM »
Back in the days when Worlds of Fun had Baptist Youth Day, they experienced the same problem.  Too many teenagers, too few adults = theft and line cutting.   Youth groups use these events to bring friends who do not attend church.  Is the 'sinning' being done by non-Christian youth or the youth who are church members?  Who cares, I'm not going back.

Ummm . . . I don't quite see the morality debate here.  SDC surely understands capitalism.  There's a darn good reason why a season passport is cheaper to SDC than WW and WW offers extremely few promotions for buying a season passport.

I went one time to Christian Family and will never go back.  I'm a youth minister and the parents are always shocked when I pretty much lock my knees on going to SDC for this event.

Really. . .ya know- I could see that making sense.  Is it possible that SDC has changed its plans for a third or fourth time?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Assumptions
« on: March 05, 2009, 11:02:02 PM »
I see that there are a few new show, but I'm concerned about what my five year old is concerned about:

What happened to the Balloon Ride and Carosel?  Are they being moved?

I'm assuming that Tom Salyers Landing is closed?

Has the "swimmin' hole" been worked with?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: SDC fans on Facebook
« on: February 06, 2009, 10:38:34 PM »
I hope that I am not too late. . . I'm a teacher also.  I joined facebook about 3 months ago and my students quickly found me.  I accepted one of my favorite students as a "friend" and quickly found that I was linked to information that as a teacher I should not have.  I canceled her as a friend and went to school and put a sign on my white board telling all students that I would not be friends with any active students.  I told them not to take it personally, but that it was an across the board standard. My students now joke that they can't wait to graduate and become my "friend."
On the other hand, I use email to send documents to my students all the time.  My students rarely write social things to me because they perceive that email is boring and official.  I think that I have found the balance of technological interaction yet keep a professional distance.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: OTC 2008 Update
« on: December 08, 2008, 12:30:32 PM »
I posted this under the wrong topic on Saturday night- I wasn't too happy at the time.  I'm calmer now.  I heard that the park can accomodate 25,000.  I do not want to be there if there are that many people there:

"Okay, so SDC had over 20,000 people in the park on Saturday.  Are they so stupid as to think that they handle that many people?  Do they think that an hour wait to leave the park, not load onto a tram, but to exit from the Christmas tree to the exit turn stile is acceptable?  Do they think that it is acceptable to host a special guest company and cancel two of the Nativity shows as a result?  Saturday was a monumental blunder for SDC.  Hopefully, they will learn from this terribly executed day."

Thank you for the dose of truth.  I'm just sitting here scratching my head as to how park attendance has bee so low that the park can't finish the swimmin' hole. Everytime that I went this years, there were tons of people.   I think that if SDC was just a little more open with their reasoning, people who are usually loyal to SDC would be more understanding.

SDC BLEW IT, TONIGHTOkay, so SDC had over 20,000 people in the park on Saturday. Hopefully, they will learn from this terribly executed day.
