General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Thunderation it's jerky
« on: August 06, 2010, 11:33:04 PM »
Here is a trick that my nephew played on me once and it really works!  He talked me into riding it backwards.  I tell ya' the pain in your neck will make you forget all about the pain in your head.   :D

Seriously though, I love that ride.  I'm just waiting on the kids to get old enough to ride it with me!

Tony from Tulsa, you're little girl, by the look on her face, was not buying the ghost trap at all.  These young kids today, never believing their elders!  On a side note, is she adopted?  We have two adopted daughters from China and I'm always on the lookout for other cuties from the provinces.

That's great!  Both of my kids are adopted from South Korea.

Just returned from our Monday visit to SDC...

Did.  Not.  Have.  Fun.

 :-[

We are going tomorrow mid-afternoon.  Are the crowds just too large even during the week?

If the rules are anything like Wal-Mart then there are no rules.  I also think the goal is to run people over with impunity.   :)

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Baggage Check
« on: July 14, 2010, 06:55:29 PM »
A would be terrorist most likely wouldn't even use a bag when the side pouch on a pair of cargo pants will do nicely.

Are pat downs next.  Don't stop there, lets get one of those new scanners that let you see through the clothes and dub it Doc Harris's New Fangled Telescope.  Seriously where does it end.  Bag checks/security checks at the convenience/gas station?  In fact that would be more logical as your chances of being attacked there are infinitely more likely.

No.  I hate those checks.  It is a hassle and the odds of an auto accident on the way down make the once in ten lifetimes chance that someone would pick SDC to go on a rampage look very, very minuscule.  It is not good for business either to shake down your customers before they even enter the park.  Not to mention the fact if someone were going to do that they would just walk through the woods.  What next build the "Great Wall" around SDC, just make sure it is themed.

Everyone always pulls 9/11 out as an example.  How afraid have we become.  I hate to break it to everyone, but you are not safe.  You never have been and never will be.  Not in your house, car, or out in public.  Danger lurks everywhere so long as you are alive, that is why you have to just feel blessed for every day you have.  It is strange to me how terrified people are of something VERY unlikely like a rampage happening to them, but flirt with danger everyday driving like they are in a race.  Run the numbers of how many people have died of heart disease since 9/11, or in auto collisions and the "death by terrorism", starts looking about as likely as the chance of being hit by lightning while being chased by Bigfoot.  Quit being afraid and enjoy your life.  After all none of us are getting out of this world alive. :D

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: SDC Fantasies
« on: June 22, 2010, 11:57:15 PM »
I would not want a hotel on park, or that colse to the park. I think it would take away from the ambiance of the area. It isn't like Indian Point and the 76 strip is THAT far away!

A totally themed hotel with a themed backside butting against the park (not so folks could come out on their balconies and watch the park) could be cool and could block the scenery of a parking lot or a highway if strategically placed.  If not that close, then a trainride away, just like Disney does with a monorail.  I see themed rooms and a convention center as distinct possibilities.

Hey History Buff Silver Dollar City is a family park!  I don't care how themed that "backside" is I don't want it "butting" up against the park.

Just kidding.  That sentence struck me as funny at nearly midnight.  This sounds like it would make great sense both aesthetically and financially for the park.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Fire In the Hole Question
« on: June 22, 2010, 11:40:23 PM »
I myself, have never seen sunlight shine thru on FITH, but I have saw cracks with what looked like maybe a maintenance area light shining thru.  Maybe that's what were talking about here.  Back when FITH first opened up, the train light did have a lot better effect.  Steam would come up from both sides of the train light like a real locomotive letting off steam, sound and all.  Not sure when they dropped this effect but it was a long time ago.

It is definitely sunlight leaking in through the roof in a few places.  I noticed it on the last trip a few weeks ago, and thought to myself, "I'd climb up there with some 'fix it' spray foam".

Also a question for Copper.  Why is moving the scenes around so expensive?  I always thought it would be a matter of grabbing a stuffed dummy and placing it somewhere else after closing time.  My son and I rode a few weeks back and the old ride looked great by the way.

Branson Talk / Re: GO-CARTS!!

Hey Junior, that might have actually been the track.  It seems like it was next to some bumper boats.  I have never had a cart like that since and will never again.  It sure was fun!

I used to love the carts as a kid.  I remember as a teenager going to Branson with some friends and riding some go-carts.  One night I got a cart that must have had the governor removed or something, because it was so powerful that I lapped everyone at least twice.  My friends eyes would bug out when I would blow past them in the corners.  Talk about unfair advantages!  :)  I was going so much faster than the rest of the pack that it became almost a little embarrassing because it made me stick out like a sore thumb.  As soon as the time was up the attendants quickly escorted my little hot rod off the track and into the service area.  I have always wondered if maybe some employees had been running this souped up version and had forgotten to tame it before it got out on the track.

Some great childhood memories in this list.

Loved Dogpatch as a kid.

Always thought Jim Lane's cabin was interesting.  What happened to it?  Did it burn down?

Used to square dance as a kid with the family and SDC squaredance weekend.  A lot of good memories going down during this time with family and friends.  It was neat to see the park after it closed for the day.

Hootin and Hollerin Festival was also a childhood summer event, but I don't have a lot of memories as most of the festivals my family attended seem to have ran together through the years.

We also believe that the quality of food has eroded since Chef Zader left.  I remember telling my wife "I don't like the sounds of that", when we heard he was gone.  Sure enough we just can't find the quality that we were accustomed to.

I always find that the smells are incredible, but I can't seem to find what smells so good.   :)

Construction/Rumors / Re: Grandfather's Mansion Re-hab?
« on: April 20, 2010, 11:37:29 PM »
Now aren't you glad for that tough love?  ;D  My daughter won't ride TNT yet and she is six.  My son is 4 and wishes to ride Powderkeg; funny how that works.

My nephew was afraid to grab the diamond in Grandfather's Mansion.  He was afraid something was going to grab his hand when he stuck it in there.  I hadn't thought of that.  If they put something like that in, there might be more people trying out the bed, or a need for an adult diaper changing station somewhere in the Mansion. ;D

Will be praying for you!  The number one problem hurdle in domestic adoption is the emphasis on biology no matter the cost to the child.  Hang in there, am believing in a favorable outcome.
