Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2011 Project

A great Idea!!  Reconfigure CC into a White Water.  It appears CC has more fixed structures of size (buildings) and could offer entertainment options for those who don't want to stay wet all day (parents).  I would thick demolition costs would be less to raze WW then to raze CC.  WW may have a better location on the strip, but more room for expansion at CC location.   Has anyone, anyone.....with decisions making authority thought of this?   Really a great idea!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Thoughts from the park on Nov 7th

krash9924 posted that two of the trains were down.  Why?  Is there issues regarding the railroad?  Wasn't one of the older locomotives going to be restored?   How about some pics of all the locomotives lined up at the engine house?

Gunner was a conductor right?  Was that the character's name or his real name. We always enjoyed his work on he train and the skit.

Our visits to SDC our always multiple day visits, but WW were usually for a single afternoon.   We felt the park was small and lacked attractions for those in our group (adults) who didn't want to stay wet all day.  Maybe more theme and boardwalk attractions.   How about in indoor lounge/show?

We love the skit! We also like it when unplanned things happen. I hope the 'actors' do take it seriously and can still have fun. Before anyone does away with it, try freshening it up.   These characters are some of the only ones left in the park.   Maybe Alfie and Ralfie should get run out of town square every morning, and maybe sneak back into town at the end of the day only to be arrested and hauled away in the sheriffs horse drawn paddy wagon????

Dollywood Discussion / Re: Dollywood Ponders Lodging Options...
« on: May 15, 2009, 08:14:44 PM »
Was there more then just one sentence to the article?

I would like to see that as an option at SDC.  A resort lodge that would continue the SDC experience from the park to the lodge.  Maybe have early park entrance for resort guests.  I know there are a lot of lodging options on Indian Pointe, and both ways on 76.  I feel that some people would just like a park resort as an option.

Boy it would be great to have a roster shot of all 4 locomotives at once. The 3 active German and the stored 0-4-0.    Are there 3 complete train sets?  Last time I rode you could tell the cars needed some TLC.  How about some photos in and around the roundhouse/engine shed?

I too would like to see the Wilderness Campground connected to SDC. (With a train). I'm sure costs would prevent it.  I also like the idea of an one site resort with it's own entrance to the park.  Something with a theme like Great Wolf Lodge with out the waterpark, or with if we are dreaming.

YES! I agree more indoor attractions.  A walk through maze, dark rides, anything with a theme.  I like the idea of a park museum or history display. For some folks, something besides a show for when it is wet, cold, or even hot.   How about indoor street scape?  Something like the Amerstar casino in KC. (NO CASINO).  Just imagine an outdoor street merging into a indoor street scape.  Disguise the entrance and theme it just right!

Other Parks / Re: State of the Industry

Great discussion. In my opinion WOF hasn't been the same since the Hunt family sold it.  There have been major rides added, but I always felt that WOF was usually an after thought when it came to funding and park improvements.  In some ways it would be great to see it become apart of HFEC.  Having a financial interest in the KC market makes a lot of sense.  WOF is a KC treasure that would benefit from a company like HFEC.   Just my 2 cents.

Is there a history between these two, and was this attempted before?

Construction/Rumors / Re: CC to become Wild Adventures?

Anyone associated with CC or SDC doing any work at CC.  What is involved with "mothballing" a park?  Any general maintenance going on?  Was any of the merchandise closed out and sold off.  Will grass, flowers, shrubs be maintained? Any weather damage, downed tree limbs, backed up storm drains, frozen or broken pipes, etc.   Just interested in how ones closes up shop, and how quickly they could open back up? Thanks

Yes, I have had concerns like oldsdcer.  Is SDC the crown jewel of HFE? Has has SDC been leverage, mortgaged or equity drawn off the property, profits used to fund other projects.  With the state of the economy it would be nice to know that SDC would always be safe and not suffer the fate that CC did.  That said, I understand that some of the properties have larger populations bases to draw from and cannot compare to the uniqueness of Branson.  I believe that most of us would like SDC to always be there and be owned by HFE. Hopefully the parking project is a start for new things to come.  I have always thought a SDC resort connected to the park would be great. Kind of like staying at a Disney property hotel.   Maybe something could be done east of the park and eventually connect the wilderness campground to a hotel resort to SDC.  Hotel guests could get early access to the park, maybe connect everything with a train or something?  Just a thought.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Craftsmen for a Day

Disney has a neat back of house experience in a number of areas.  One of them is a behind the scenes experience with the park trains, which by the way are actual narrow gauge steam engines.  At SDC some of the park experience is view and learning the skills and history of the crafts men/women. I have always wondered why the steam train hasn't been featured in such a way?  Roller coaster enthusiasts often enjoy special perks; (I have no first hand knowledge of what, and I think it's cool that they do).  Could it possible for steam enthusiasts to get involved with the Silver Dollar Lines?

Let me suggest if not restored to operational status, how about a cosmetic restoration to it's original condition.  Since Henry Ford turned into an American icon, doesn't the locomotive hold some historical value?  Maybe the locomotive could be displayed somewhere in the park under some type of cover?  How about creating an area with other items of historical valve.  Has SDC collected and saved items that may be deemed historical?

Great back story! So the original locomotive is the display locomotive.  Any chance of restoring it.  Maybe use it on special occasions with a shorter train?  I personally enjoy the more "Americanized" look of the original locomotive.
