Random Talk / Re: Myrtle Beach Dixie Stampede changing
« on: September 24, 2010, 08:50:52 AM »

This is an article taken from screamscape website, they do not list there source but i find them to be a very reputable
information source on the industry.

Quote
South Carolina - (9/23/10) Dolly Parton’s famous Dixie Stampede dinner theater attraction in Myrtle Beach is getting an $11 million transformation this winter to become Pirate’s Voyage in June 2011.
“Guests will experience the spirit and swashbuckling excitement of the pirates who called the Carolina coast home. The Crimson and Sapphire pirates battle each other on deck, in the water and in the sky above their full sized pirate ships in a 15-foot-deep indoor lagoon to the cheers and delight of their fans in the arena. Which side will take the treasure? It’s up to you to cheer them to victory!”
“I’m so excited about this new show,” Dolly said. “I think Pirates' Voyage will take our guests’ breath away! The competition and action between the pirates is incredible.” Spectacular acrobatic competitions live animals and a brand new original music score by Dolly Parton and Mark Brymer will create an immersive adventure experience.
“Some folks may ask me why I would want to change Dixie Stampede after our incredible success all these years. Nearly seven million guests have enjoyed the show over the last 18, years,” Dolly said. “It may be a bold move but I think it’s the right one. Myrtle Beach has so many repeat visitors because it is such a great vacation destination, it made sense for us to create a new adventure for families to enjoy and what speaks to this area more than Pirates, so grab your hats and eye patches and head on over to the Pirates' Voyage!”
The guest will begin their experience in the Pirates Lair and Crow’s Nest for a fun and interactive experience. They will then move into the main arena sectioned into Crimson and Sapphire pirate camps. Guests will enjoy a spectacular five course pirate feast. As the experience continues, each side will compete for the ultimate treasure!
Sounds to me like she will still be involved, maybe this is a test.  They pulled the plug on Orlandos show some time ago, maybe some of the shows are not as popular as Branson's.

This years Riverblast was BIG as in it took several years to accomplish
Now Rube you know it took a cpl years cause they didn't want to spend the cash.
That's the straight talk on the matter

They can bring back the Balloons, and the Carousel and.....maybe they can fix the treehouse?............
There seems to be some hinting towards UP in the trees

Maybe I'm just naive, but when it comes to competition I don't see SDC as having that much.
From a business standpoint SDC is in competition with the local redbox as well as any other entertainment.  The money you spend at both of these as well as a CD from Wal Mart is discretionary income.  SDC is in competition with every other company in that category.  We have just so much discretionary money to go around.  SDC has to seek out this money.  If they shut down the advertising and additions they would tank.
Its just the way business is.

I am there every few weeks.
If there is anything to see I will post photos.
I have still lost faith and hope that they will have more to announce than the return of a kiddie ride.
I guess I don't get excited about going around in circles.
Please SDC give us more...

If I am paying around 250 a year on season passes alone, I think they could use that money to fix stuff up.
Amen to that.
I think the idea that the suits don't care as much about our opinions as new visitors may be true.  But we are the ones that tithe yearly to the Hershings and they need to remember the faithfull.
Wait, its not the Hershings, its some group of people in Atlanta.

I have been this year, besides the signs and "did you know" markers, it really doesn't feel different from any other year.
I concur
FITH additions were great and the new kids ride is nice.
There was a lot of build about this year but I have seen no tangable difference sans the "Did you know" signs.
I sure hope they make a big announcement of a " gift" for the park.

Its a good show, there is a new one each week and they are worth listening too
Great mix of music.
If you go to EBay you can get a $5 mp3 player that reads a usb thumb drive or a memory chip, it  runs through your car FM and it works great for the show in the car.
I think mine was $5 and I load up a new show every week.
Hope you enjoy the podcast.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / SDC Music .....BlueGrass
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:30:09 PM »

There is a topic "whats your favorite sound at SDC".
There is something about the sound of the bubbling spring on Springstreet with bluegrass that takes me back to my boyhood years.  The sounds of the rolling water and the bluegrass marry in some way, they complement each other beautifully.
I was at the lake today ( over cast rainy, it was me and the dawg) as we walked I was listening to a podcast that I download regularly.  My mind went back to the late 70's early 80's and I decided I had to share this with the SDC Fans. This is the music that makes me think SDC.
Try it out and let me know what you think, its free and updated weekly.
I recommend the latest/last show as a first.
Enjoy

BTW, I have nothing to do with the show, just stumbled upon it one day.
I am just recomending it to friends  ;D

I believe with, or without the guns, and even with some of the classic special effects gone, newer riders are still having that spark lit when they the ride the Flooded Mine

I will have to disagree with you.  Its lost its charm, they have removed the effects that made the ride and then given vasectomies to the effects that remain.
Its an ok ride, but apparently SDC has bigger things to tend to than maintaining a old classic.
It's a shame. But thats the way I feel about it.

The foam rocks were large adn looked great falling with that strobe. I was 10 but it seemed like they fell a good distance.  It was simply what made the ride for me.

I am only really really partial to the rockslide, that was my altime favorite part of the flooded mine and it really took a hit when they lost that effect.
