What is Lake of the Ozarks area doing to keep it going?  I know very little about that area as I would never put a boat the size of mine on that crazy lake. Branson is always bustling when I am there. From the looks of crowds, it doesn't seem that they are hurting. I realize that businesses are hurting, especially shows, but I wonder if the crowds have migrated to the lakes instead. Believe me, I think lake traffic has doubled lately!  We make marina reservations months in advance to be assured of dock space. I've seen wait times of an hour to get boats in the water at ramps and lines at the marinas to purchase gas. It wasn't like this 10 years ago.

Bars, bars, night clubs, condos, bars, more bars, more condos, party cove, more night clubs, and more bars. That is what they are doing. I live there (or close enough to it at any rate) and go to Branson to get away from it. As much as funlake.com would like you to believe there are not very many family friendly attractions. It's pretty much a playground for the rich with no holds barred.

Rube, really? (HA!)

How about:  "Me and my partner had a Wildfire, she had a real Fire in the Hole, so I took an American Plunge, it was a real Electrospin, and Thunderation, we went off like a Powder Keg, I let loose a Lost River, a real River Blast, you might say I Flooded (her) Mine, so after that trip deep into Marvel Cave, we are both Happy Frogs, and are expecting a little Ladybug very soon!" (folks, just joking around here, please, don't be offended!)  :) ;) :D ;D  I just could not resist this post...it showcases my weird sense of humor.  :o

I had no idea that much innuendo could come from some theme park attractions. You really gave that some thought!  ;D

they did not sell any real estate at the auction.....
but they did sell everything that wasn't bolted down!!

AND a few things that were bolted down.......

They were going to. I'm not entirely sure now that they did. The day the auction was scheduled was a snowstorm. I've looked at some of the pics on their new website, and drove by there yesterday and I saw a lot of things that I thought would be missing. I suppose the new owners could have bought it all at the auction, who knows.

Compton Ridge has reopened under Ocean Canyon Properties. There was much speculation about turning the campground into a timeshare, and I'm still not positive what their plans are, however I did see they linked to one of my posts here on their facebook page discussing the Sims family who were the original owners and how they intend to follow in that tradition. Fingers crossed.

We are up to the challenge. Our friends and business associates in Branson called us when the campground became available. They told us about the Sims family and how they built this campground into a highly respected business in the community. As you can see from this post, we have done some research and would love to speak with campers that knew the Sims. We understand some of the family members are still in the area and we hope they stop by to say hello. We are a very community oriented company with good christian values and hope to continue some of there traditions that may have been lost in the interim ownership between us and the Sims. Also please pass on our new Facebook page along to our friends as the last owner will not us use the page that they created.

We plan to continue the great family camping tradition that the Sims family started at Compton Ridge so many years ago. We salute the Sims! They created a beautiful campground and we are proud to be the new owners and caretakers. There is some historical discussion of the Sims and some old photo of Compton Ridge Campground - Ocean Canyon Properties here:

Awesome paint skillz

I'm questioning whether more parking is even needed. Every time we've been there it looks exactly like your pic. All the cars are bunched up in the east and north side parking lots and hardly any on the west. Since Old Navy is on the east end I figured it is one of the more popular stores and thus why everyone is parking over there.

For those that aren't on facebook, or are and aren't friends with any of the SDC characters I thought I'd share this here. This years mugs are pretty cool I think:

Everyone should be able to view this without a fb account, if not I'll upload the pic.
